Thanks for the shout out! If you do make a trip out of comming down to the Southwest, Let me know, it would be great to meet up, if you bring your boat all the better! If not we can go out on mine, I keep it on the hook or in a slip all summer so she should be ready and on call.
Post some pix's...
I spent Sunday afternoon pretending to be a contortionist (I now have even more respect for boat mechanics’) The good news is, YES, the freeze plugs can be installed with the engine in the boat! It does require that the weight be taken off of the mounts with a hoist of some type. Fortunately I...
Well, that helps answer the question if it can be done with the engine in. It's all good! Chalk it up to a learning experience!
Thank You for taking the time to post your experience, I really appreciate it!
Happy Spring To All!
I have been getting the Cabin, 1984 260 DA ready to put on the local water here in Colorado and have discovered that while I thought I had taken all of the drain valves out of the 5.7L Merc, it seems as though I missed the two very lowest ones. OH BOY! (must be my older...
So are you guys thinking that the 3 blade 16 x 13 is not enough of a drop? The next available size from merc would be 15 x 13 from what I have been told by my local shop. In a few other forums I have read that at sea level the 260 performs in the 4200 -4600 range w/ a 15 x 15 factory prop. The...
I like the cost of the re-carb approach, and believe I will try that route first for the minimal cost. The increase in horse power over the stock 260 was one of my larger concerns and don’t believe the new carb will provide the kind of increase that the EFI package would. But hey! it's not $2500...
Ah, boat bucks, this is a very good point, one that makes sense now that you put it that way, dollors spent on a boats IS a bit different.
I will have to reconsider the EFI investment, after hearing about the time spent trying to get it tuned in... I will keep you posted on the next step.
OK ... I think I have found the answer.

It looks like a cool $2,500 and I am all set, except for labor "Oh Boy"! That may be the scary part.
I have to admit, I am a bit suprised no one has chipped in...
I have an early (1984) Merc 5.7 L small block V-8 that is carbureted, (small for a 260 SRV) my home water is at 7800 feet elevation to boot. It is a bit under powered to start with and this elevation doesn’t help the issue.
I am not interested in refitting with a new power plant.......yet.

Just wanted to update my efforts to get the factory switch that controls the searchlight working. After getting over the fear that if I took the switch apart, I some how would not be able to get it put back together again, I decided I had nothing to loose and pulled the assembly apart (very...
Purchased my 1984 260 Dancer as a first owner of a SeaRay and a large boat period!
I have done nothing but "Love" every minute of the time I get on the water of my local lake. Trying not to mention the 4 letter word (work), I have even enjoyed the time giving her some needed attention. The last...
Thanks to all that have offered your experienced advice. Much appreciated, that exemplifies the value of our club!
After hearing that other owners have had similar results of inherent listing by design, I am beginning to believe there is not an issue.
I am know convinced that the picture I...
Thanks for the reply Eric, your info is encuraging... I am planning on pulling it out of the water next week just to see if I am missing something. There are a couple of (sections)? where the hule is built up an the port and starboard sides next to the engine that the batteries and such sit on...
Ok, my 1984 260 sundancer has been in the water here in Southwestern Colorado for the last 45 days and about 3 weeks ago I noticed her listing to the Starboard side to the sum of almost 2.5 inches... with no water to speak of in the engine compartment, and normal ??? loading I am not sure where...
Thanks for the tip, I tried those nice folks first thing this morning.... They did not have parts that far back for the particular application...
Thank You! and Please keep sending advice.

I have a 1984 260 Sundancer and my remote spot light needs a new toggle/joy stick switch (the one that is on the dash) to make it work correctly again. Does anyone have a suggestion of where I can would find such a part?
Thanks in advance,
