I had one episode in pretty rough water where some discarded line from an old lobster pot got wrapped around the prop on my single engine boat. I was only about 50 yards off of a very rocky coast where the waves were crashing. It was in one of the deepest parts of Narragansset Bay off of...
I have three batteries on my boat but from the sound of this thread it appears that others have only 2?? I am curious as to why I have the third battery and what the wiring sequence is.
The Official 280 Sundancer thread was way back on the 4th page so I figured I would revive the thread because I need to complain. The weather in New England absolutely stinks this year, just ask Tony B from Providence. If it's not raining it is pea soup fog where I am at the entrance to...
Thanks for all the replies. So far I like the velcro idea. The location of the cradle makes it very vulnerable but from a safety perspective it is also easily accessable so I can see why Sea Ray placed it there. If only the darn thing were a little more rugged. I think that mine now has more...
My '04 280 is equipped with a Raymarine 215 VHF radio. This unit has a seperate microphone and cradle that is mounted below and left of the steering wheel. My cradle is broken and I have tried several times to repair it but it never lasts. Raymarine has discontinued this item and I cannot find a...
I want to upgrade my tv/dvd to digital and would like a larger screen. I believe starting in 2005 and later Sea Ray began installing either 13" or 15" instead of the 9" that my boat has. Can someone let me know what brand that may be and is it digital? Any recommendations on a unit that will fit...
I had a bad IAC valve that showed up as a trim fault on the Smartcraft. Maybe Smartcraft isn't so smart after all because once the valve was changed the problem went away.

You raise a lot of valid questions. I have twin 4.3's with Alpha drives and I really like the set up. Everyone has opinions on this but the Alpha has been around a long time and if serviced properly it is a very dependable unit. The early B3's had issues and in salt water where I am, my mechanic...
I just had the identical problem on my port engine and it was indeed the IAC valve. When the alarm would beep and it would show up on the smartcraft as a trim fault. New valve, no more beep and no more trim fault. My mechanic claims it is due to ethanol gas. Now I am waiting for my starboard...
I had the identical problem yesterday on my season's first voyage on my port engine. My mechanic believes it is the IAC valve and has had many Mercruisers with this problem. He believes that it is directly related to ethanol gas. On one hand I hope I don't have to pull the boat as she just got...
I have the identical boat with 4.3's. I don't know for sure what my WOT but I am positive it is far greater than 4100. I have had 6 men on my boat all over 200lbs. and have had no problems whatsoever getting on plane without even using the tabs. Something is definitely wrong so I would bring it...
I agree that it will be tough to hit 40MPH with the 270AJ and I also agree that it's not something that you would want to do often any way. I am not an expert on these matters but in my opinion the hull design with a 21 degree dead rise provides a nice ride in choppy conditions. I think that the...
I owned a 2005, 270 Amberjack for 1 1/2 years. I enjoyed the boat very much while I had it. I had the 6.2L Horizon, B3 set up that you have. I found the handling of the boat to be great and the fishability was also very good. One of her strongest suits was handling choppy/rough water and while...
JYurgo, I have to say that you display one of the nicest action photos of a 280DA that I have seen. I guess there are many reasons why Sea Ray has produced the 280 for almost a decade and your photo highlights one of the main reasons. It is a very pretty boat.

I owned a 2005 270AJ for a couple of seasons with the 6.2 Horizon B3 set up. I would still have it if it had the aft cabin as I needed more sleeping ability. The day I picked it up at Onset Marina on Cape Cod there were small craft advisories and I took her to Jamestown R.I. in Narragansett Bay...
I keep 2 throwables behind the helm seat, 6 beneath the cockpit sink where the cooler would go, 2 in the starboard locker, and a few spares under the v birth. I have never had more than 8 people on board and I always show guests where the pfd's are and ask if they would like to have one by their...
I have never had a problem with mine, probably because I'm strong like bull!! My friends would say I'm full of bull but seriously, I just get it started with my hand and it goes right up the way it's supposed to. I agree that the position of the rear seat is very important also.
