    2001 SD340 rear seat removal

I see lots of my fellow boat owners have given this a read but offer no advise, no kidding right. I did tackle the project yesterday and found the rear seat has to be removed to gain access to the final fastener located through the access round panel port side. What an awful set up. Glad it is done

    2001 SD340 rear seat removal

It is time to re-upholster the cushions and I need a little help. How do I remove the portion of the back supporting section of the bench seat. Do I need to remove the panel that the electrical cords plug into. I did remove the thru bolts that were visible inside the rear compartment but the...

    Westerbeke Gen Section Removal

Good morning all. Decided to tackle the gen section removal job during my vacation. For those of you who said it could not be done or to leave it to the professionals it is like most bilge projects, not fun but can be done. Just a basic nut and bolt job in tight quarters. An impact wrench is a...

    Westerbeke Gen Section Removal

Good afternoon all. Has anyone removed the gen section of their generator while the unit remains in place. My gen section is toast and the genny tech tells me he wants to remove the unit before he can work on it. The space is tight as one would expect but it seems like it is possible. Has anyone...

Both of the twins are air bound?

I never removed the hoses and have come to the conclusion that the pump bodies themselves are worn. With the old impellers installed all is fine because the old parts wear pattern match the wear pattern in the brass housings. The new impellers are not sealing the pump body and causing a big...

Both of the twins are air bound?

Good afternoon all. I just finished the awful task of replacing my seawater impellers. Of course now neither engine pumps water out the exhaust. The pumps do function as I pulled the cover off the heat exchanger and the water was gushing out. The water just wont get by some back pressure...

    Purchasing Sundancer 340 99-2001

I have the factory 3 bladed props on the boat with no complaints. My local prop shop feels this set up works best for my boating style. My WOT is about 4500RPM at 40 MPH. Way to fast for that boat with tiny rudders, 3200 to 3400 RPM it just purrs along.

    Purchasing Sundancer 340 99-2001

Good choice D. The 340 is one of Searays most popular models for many reasons, a little of the best of all worlds. That being said a family of 4 plus parents can make for cramped quarters. I have a 2001 with the 496 guzzlers and have nothing but good things to say about the motor/V drive combo...

Removing rear seat 2001 340 SD

The title pretty much says it all. I am in need of replacing the upholstery on the rear seat back on the 340. I removed the nuts and washers that I could gain access to via the storage/water hookup/electrical connection hatch on the transom but gained nothing from my effort. The seat was not the...

How many here have Captains license?

Master 100GT here. Never know what the future may hold but most likely will involve me being on the water. Lots of opportunities with the local Harbormasters looking for trained licensed people in my area.

Starboard motor only starts when e switch engaged

The only problem I have now Frank is that I have no idea what a fusible link is. I do see that there are fuses on the solenoids in the control panel is this the area to check or on the motor itself? Thanks for the help. Tcat

Starboard motor only starts when e switch engaged

Like title says my starboard motor only starts when I use the emergency start switch. Both batteries are fine and I even switched the positive cables to ensure it was not just a connection. I am leaning towards one of the 4 solenoids i see mounted on the bulkhead in the engine room. Any guidance...

    Water Pump Dilemma 2001 340sd 8.1litre

Thank you all for your input. I was lucky enough to get lots of practice this weekend replacing impellers and removing exhaust systems. The brand new mercruiser impeller was junk. The hub spins but as soon as any pressure is applied to the rubber blades they stop moving and the hub spins freely...

    Water Pump Dilemma 2001 340sd 8.1litre

Thank you Jimmy for the info. The only thing left is a bad new impeller. That would explain why it will not take water even from a hose and after being primed. Maybe the new part is spinning in the pump but the blades have somehow not been bonded to the plastic hub properly. Will put the old one...

    Water Pump Dilemma 2001 340sd 8.1litre

Was just time to replace the impellers on my 340. I did do my research and read up on the project, at least I thought I did. I removed my muffler so I could gain access which was fairly easy to do. I read about the green and white plastic hose that had to be removed in order to complete the...

    Engine alarm

Final update. Mercruiser called the mechanic and informed him the PCM's in my boat were a recalled item. I guess they are throwing false fault codes. I have 2 on the way. Thanks all for the help. Tcat

    Engine alarm

Thank You for your input. I would think if the engine water pump was commonly referred to as the "secondary pump" the people at Mercruiser would be aware that they programmed the on-board computer to recognize the error code. Tcat

    Engine alarm

New info on alarm . Had the local Mercruiser repair man down today and pulled the code from the motor. The fault triggering the alarm was " secondary pump" problem. He has no idea what that is and neither does the people at mercruiser so far. Has this happened to anyone else? I googled searched...
