Alpha 1 Gen 2 oil hose

I'm changing all the bellows and hoses on my Alpha 1 Gen 2s. Having cut the old remote oil hoses between the transom and bell housing I threw them in the skip, of course... Today the replacement hose has arrived ....but this has to be cut to length! Anyone happen to know the exact length...

Anyone have experience with Revolution 4 props?

I'm thinking about getting a pair of Revolution 4s for my 270DA... Standard was 21" Vengeance. Has anyone tried these on a 270 or similar boat??

    4 blade props on 270 Sundancer '98

I've just had a call from the prop repair shop... apparently my props are only good for the skip, showing really bad stress cracks when they cleaned them up. These were old-ish 4 blade Offshore props, 21" pitch, that I picked up second hand - they were a bit dirty when I bought them so didn't...

    Correct drive lube bottle..

In my ever-lasting quest to find my intermittent engine alarms I decided to clean-out my drive lube bottles - which, it turns out, were full of goo... After I did this I checked their operation with an ohmmeter and they are not always working as I expect they should.. So maybe I've found the...

What does a bad circulation pump sound like?

One of my engines has started making a horrible sort-of-crunching / grinding noise that -seems- to be coming from near the water circulation pump. Its not a very regular frequency or in synch with engine revs but does increase in speed as you rev up. I can't think of a better way to describe...

    Correct trim cylinder/ram behaviour..?

Hi, I've had a leaky trim ram/cylinder so decided to give it a strip-down and re-build.. Water was getting in the fluid and one ram would drop by itself when the boat is out the water and the drive removed. Although this would take a few days. I took both cylinders off the boat and drained...

    Unused power steering pump connections

Anyone know why the unused power steering pump on a twin engined boat has a hose that goes into a metal u-bend, then on to another hose into the cooler? Does the u-bend do anything/have anything inside it? I think my u-bend bit leaks ... or the hose near it does... so would ideally like to...

Oh dear... noisy engine... possibly engine alignment

Oh dear... noisy engine... bad alignment? I just finished replacing the manifolds on my 4.3L s. Whilst they were off, I torqued-up the rear engine mounts and did a load of other maintainance on everything else I could reach at the back of the engine. Starting up one of the engines now there...

OEM vs aftermarket manifolds & risers

Hi Everyone, What are your experiences with aftermarket manifolds and risers? - I removed my 11 year old manifolds today and, as I expected, they are in a pretty awful state.. good for the skip only. Now, here in the UK we pay through the nose for everything.. List price for a pair OEM...

    Advanced Alternator Regulator

Has anyone on the forum installed an advanced alternator regulator to their boat? When wiring these in, do you know if the Mercruiser alternator regulators are positive or negative? Did you get a vast improvement on the charging rate?

    Mystery wire number 743 - on '98 270 SDA

Hi, Anyone know what green wire "743" is on a 1998 270 Sundancer?? - it has a ring connector on the end and has come loose from somewhere near the fuel filler or fresh water tank. The other end goes into the rest of the wiring loom... I've some wiring diagrams for the boat but can't find...

    Help with 4.3L Timing Mark?

I'm trying to set the timing on my 1998 2bbl 4.3L 190hp carb engines but can't find the timing mark scale - all I have is a tab with a notch in it. There is no scale on the damper either - just one very thin line. What do the notch and line indicate, if I align them? TDC? Or are they...

    Mystery Battery Connection

On my '98 270DA the port engine battery has two cables (one each of +ve and -ve) in addition to the main power cables and battery charger (+ve) cable. Anyone know what these extra cables are for? - I'm trying to trace everything to get to the bottom of an inconsistent battery discharge...

    Fuel starvation or vapor lock?

My port engine doesn't want to perform when I first start it... It starts and warms up OK but when I throttle on to get the boat planing it dies off. It will recover if I throttle back. If I rev the engine in neutral it also hits a wall at about 2800 rpm, as if its hitting a rev limiter...

    Split Charging from Engine

Does anyone know if the altenator charges both batteries at the same time, regardless of the position of the "1 - Both - 2" selector switch? - i.e. do Sea Rays (1998 270s to be precise) include a split charge diode system?

    1998 270 Sundancer Alternator Wiring

Anyone an expert on wierd battery discharge problems...? One (not always the same one!) of my starboard batteries will go completely flat after a few days without the charger on. Seems its discharging into the others somehow. Also, if I disconnect any two batteries, the remaining battery will...

    Grease Paranoia!

According to my service manual I -must- not use 2-4-C on the gimbal bearings as the teflon causes the bearings to slip (rather than roll) and eventually fail... OK.. Sounds reasonable. So this morning I went round to one of the local merc dealers to get some Gimbal Bearing and U-joint Lube...

    Late 90's 270 Sundancer Thread

Everyone else has one - so how about a thread of our own for those with the "wider beam" 270 'Dancer? Here's my first topic: Does everyone else's boat have a sealing strip at the -back- of the engine hatch? Mine didn't, with a strip only at the front and sides. Dunno if it should have been...

    Alpha 1 shift-in clunky

Hi, Anyone know what would make my port drive make a louder-than usual and double-clunck when I shift into gear? Its as if its having trouble getting into gear for half a second and then does. Shift-out is OK, in that it doesn't sound like the drives going to drop off, but does seem to...

    Through-hull transducer on 98 270DA

I decided last month it was time to upgrade my depth sounder to a fishfinder... As the old Lowrance sounder used 192kHz I had to replace the transducer to use a modern 50/200kHz fishfinder anyway so I bought a 60mm titled element through-hull transducer and drilled out the hole of the...
