I am working on the same thing! My Benson windlass will only pull up, not let anchor rode out. Sounds like I have done much of the same trouble shooting as you have. I found the 6 post solenoids online and ordered them. I plan to install them tomorrow to see if that works...
Check your anchor locker drain. On my 1987 WE 300, the anchor locker drain get clogged and the water runs into and overflow drain that flows down into the middle bilge under the cabin floor. It usually flow toward the center bilge pump.
Mine is not a free fall windlass. I wish it was as the it does not drop the anchor fast enough. That and the fact that it is designed for rope only makes it a bad design in my mind.
Okay, so I have been trying to troubleshoot my broken windlass all summer. It is a Benson Rope only windlass on my 1987 Weekender 300. Basically, it will still pull up, but when I try to let line out, the motor just quietly hums.
So, I pulled the windlass electric motor and gear box. I...
Can you use a household compact (1.7 sq ft) refrigerator to replace a Norcold. I know it will only be able to run on shore power, but the replcacement cost of a new Norcold is quite high. Is there any difference in the basic construction?
I was hoping to get some advice on an issue I am having with my fridge. It works on battery power, but not on shorepower. I know the shorepower circuit is good, and the there is power being supplied to the fridge, but it will not kick on. When I turn the switch on the dash to power it by...
Sounds like the same Jabsco toilet that I have. The basic Jabsco pump toilet. I have had to rebuild mine twice in the past 3 years. They sell a rebuild kit at West Marine for about $60. It replaces all the rubber parts and o rings in the pump unit. Mine did just as you describe, then I...
Hi. I have a 8'6" Baltik PVC inflatable. I just bought Weaver davits and need to glue the pads to the dink. Problem is that the rubber "Baltik" nameplate is right where I need to glue the pad. Anyone know of a way to remove this nameplate? Thanks!!!
Had an issue with my 300 WE this weekend. I got to the marina on Saturday morning, and washed the boat. I washed the boat before opening it up or boarding so I could leave my canvas up. When I finished washing, I opened her up. Then I went into the cabin, and the cabin floor was wet. I have...
I am doing my first diy oil change on the boat this year. I just got the Jabsco flat oil pump from WM. My question is on what weight of oil to use??? Also, anyone have a preference on brand?

You need to get a qualified mechanic to look at it. Your transmission is electronically independent of the engine. When you select forward or reverse, you engage an internal hydraulic pump which applies pressure to the drive clutches inside the transmission. When the pump is...
I just launched this past weekend, and I noticed an issue with my port transmission. I was hoping someone might have some insight... :smt100
I have a 87 300 Weekender with twin 350 inboard mercs. The issue I noticed is when I put the port engine in gear, either forward or reverse, the...
Glassing the limber holes is probably something I should look into before spring launch. Is it a difficult job? Which limber holes would you glass, all you can access? Is this something the average DIY'er can accomplish?
My 300WE already has dripless shafts, so I am lucky there. I have...
I have a 1987 300 WE. I love it. I have only had one full season. I also heard all the horror stories of rotten stringers with the sea rays of that vintage. It is possible to find good ones. But, it is a must to have a good surveryor check it out. What I did was ask the surveyor to check...
