Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of the 270 AJ.
I'll answer you questions as you've asked them.
1. We boat in the waters off Perth, Western Australia (The worlds windiest capital city). A still day is rare. I use my boat to either fish well off shore (15 - 30 nm) or travel to a popular...
Our dinghy weighs in at 32kg which is 76lbs without the motor. I won't be able to take a photo for a while as it's packed up and we won't use for a month or so.
to docbruce:
I have a 2.4m Silvermarine inflatable with airdeck and a 3.5hp Tohatsu. Both are relatively light which makes life easier.
I tie it to rear cleats for travel with the hull sitting sideways on the swim deck and firmly strapped down. This has proven a good way to do it for...
If using muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid) make sure you dilute the neat product 1 in 10 first and then increase concentration from there if necessary. This will reduce the fumes and also decrease the risk of damage to base metal components like zincs etc.
Rust removal products based on...
No I don't or more accurately I can't remember.....I did look when I last had her out of the water. They are what came with the boat....WOT is at 5100rpm for 33.1 kts so it's about right.
I'll dive on her during the week and post next week end.
To add to Jennifer B's excellent answer:
I have the 6.2 with BIII in our AJ270. With 2 adults and 2 children on board with full fuel and water we get about 14 - 15 GPH @22kts. (3900 rpm)
It is a little sluggish with 6 on board but acceptable.
Good work on the rope bridle. Nice use of the D-lock. Will definitely try that one...we have wind all the time here!
*I'm all sweet on the spelling...just having a laugh myself. It's just the events of 1778 stunted the development of the language in your parts. :)*
In Western Australia all moorings have to be installed to a certain standard with the bouy marked clearly with the length of boat for which the mooring is rated and the maximum windspeed for which they are rated. Most are coded to a maximum of 40kts! Though I have never experienced a mooring...
Hi Danward12,
Perthite here as well. Sorry to hear about the problems must've been a Monday boat! I'd say the random stopping issue probably had something to do with the indoor pool you found. Your conclusion regarding the water is correct...the water is acting as ballast.
My AJ270 has the...
I have a 270 AJ but I also only have 2 young children.
Depending on the weather where you are the 270 has a deck clear enough to put a double inflatable mattress on which is where my wife and I prefer to sleep which would leave the V berth and mid cab for the kids. Squeezy but achievable. Of...
Sounds very much like a fuel related problem.
If possible check:
1. Fuel quality (ie. is there water?)
2. Fuel lines for a blockage.
3. Fuel pump function.
Generally ECM controlled motors won't start at all if there is a failure in the unit so this can be discounted.
Any chance of a...
On Sunday just passed, the Admiral and I took our new baby for it's first family outing. It was a beautiful sunny (but cool) winters day which we spent cruising up river on the Swan (We are in Perth Western Australia) to join some friends for a late morning coffee.
We then headed out to sea to...
Agree with all the above....single screw stern drive or outboards will always wander at low speed and the deeper the V the worse the wander.
As others have said...you do get to a point where you don't even notice.
