    410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

I highly doubt it is the Aetnas but the photo tach was cheap so I ordered one and will check anyway. The more I think about it, the more I am starting suspect perhaps dirty fuel filters are at least partly to blame. I just completed oil changes on both engines and next up was fuel filters...

No soot on the transom. There was an initial small amount of soot that came out when I first started the engines prior to my trip. First time I have seen that but no soot after that. EDIT: no smoke either. Engines run very clean actually.

I swapped factory tachs to Aetna's and set dip switches per the manual. I am confident they are correct as they roughly matched the idle reading from the factory tachs.

I will do that. Spending tomorrow on the boat, mostly to watch the lights parade but I will try and run all these tests while I am there.

Yeah it hit 2800 during the Sea Trial which is the confounding part of this whole thing. I have added things to the boat, but I don't think I have added enough weight to affect it that much. Bottom is cleaned monthly, and the diver says it never gets that dirty between cleanings. My only theory...

So just an update to this prior topic. I made another run to Catalina this week, so had to fill the tanks before leaving. I put in 207 gallons, which of course means that is roughly what I burned on the last trip (which was about 180 miles due to a side trip). So not quite getting the ~1 mpg I...

Yeah, I got my expectation of 1 mpg from reading this thread. Frankly my assessment of my mileage on the Catalina trip is far from scientific so I probably should not put too much weight on it. I filled my tanks before I left, so presumably that is 330ish gallons. The trip is 75 miles each way...

Yeah my bottom is cleaned every month, but I was at the extreme end of that cycle. Although the diver told me that my bottom doesn't really get that dirty between cleanings. I think I am going to have to take the boat out with no dinghy and hopefully right after being cleaned and do a more...

Wow, not that big! It is an Achilles 280 Rib with a 100lb outboard. The thing is I don't know how bad my mileage is yet as I have not refilled the tanks. I'll do a little math once I do. So there is a chance I am wrong, but the fact I couldn't get to 2,800 is a pretty big factor as well.

Hey everyone, it has been awhile since I posted here. Took me over a year to get the oil link on my port engine sorted out. But with the help of some locals, and this thread I finally got her out of the slip. Took one trip to Anacapa, and then spent a few days in Avalon (hence the updated...

Here is where I am at now. There were of course brackets which I have taken off. Also I have managed to rotate the Gauge itself but not move it even a fraction on the other axis I am about to go home and grab some wood clamps and fashion up some sort of support to work them out without cracking...

Ugh, I feel so dumb for asking this but what is the process to remove the old tachs? I have purchased new Aetna tachs, I've gotten the dash panel out and the bracket removed. The bracket would indicate that the guage should just slide out the front of the panel, but it doesn't, or at least it...

Dude, if you had only heard all the conversations we had about "how could this thing be leaking? it is literally under no pressure" and how many times I went back in and put another quarter turn on that back bolt (and yes it is a PITA to get to). I purchased a low profile swivel socket set...

We literally sanded it flat. We had some adhesive sandpaper, which we taped down to the plate on top of the engine (sorry don't know what it is called) and sanded it down perfectly flat.

It has been awhile but thought I'd give an update on my "newly" (now 4 months ago) purchased boat. After waiting for the new elbow for oil drain tube to come from Russia, I finally got a day to put it in. Guess what? Oil still leaking, but just a much smaller leak, and now from the top of the...

So what other items should be changed along with the oil? Is there a standard list? This is my first oil change on a diesel so I am not familiar with the procedure and how it defers from a gas automobile (oil, oil filter, crush washer) engine for example.

Uhhh, well if I did my math right, I need 11 gallons at a minimum. So I got extra mostly just because it comes in handy. But as I write this I realize I don't really need that much extra. But I'll just use it in the next oil change.

Thanks for bumping me back into the conversation. The good news I am going to change oil on both engines so the oil discussion was relevant too. I just ordered 18 gallons of T4 15/40 from Walmart so I am ready once I finally take care of this leak. Now back to the leak, it is coming out at the...
