So long CSR and Sea Ray--it's been a grand 15 years

Hi guys--I'm a former 290DA owner and haven't been on CSR in years--partially because I've been on a never ending quest for a larger long range higher comfort boat, partially because I've owned an older 290 for 15 years which few people own now so there are few questions, and partially because I...

Boating Group in the Carolinas Looking for Enthusiastic Boaters!

Here's my not so periodic call for new members on CSR: If you're in the Charleston area, and if you're really into using your boat, not just cleaning it and hanging at the dock, please check out the Carolina Boaters on Facebook. We have a fantastic time together and we'd love to have you join...

    2013 CSR Carolinas Coastal Rendezvous

We've had several coastal CSR Rendezvous meet-ups over the years, and we could do another this year if there's interest. Last year, we met up at the beautiful marina on Bald Head Island, NC near Wilmington. Because we had such a great time last year, I'll start by suggesting that we meet on...

Why Does the 2008 310DA weigh 1500 lbs more than the 2006 300DA? Same beam and LOA.

Overall length, dead rise, base engines, and beam of the two boats are identical, yet the 310 weighs 1500 lbs more. The main difference I can see is the rather small hardtop that the 310DA has. Hard to believe that would add 1500 lbs. Anyone have any ideas why this extra weight for the 310...

Cruise to Steamboat Creek and Dataw Island

Our cruising group, Carolina Boaters, did a cruise this past weekend in the Edisto Island/Dataw Island area. We had a great time. We anchored overnight Friday on Steamboat Creek near Bohicket Marina (where Tiger Woods had his yacht "Privacy" for the PGA tournament at Kiawah), and then went off...

330 Miles up the ICW to the 2012 Rendezvous in a 290DA--Videos and Pics

I took some videos and photos of my trip up the ICW to the 2012 Rendezvous described in this thread: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/48382-2012-Rendezvous-Coastal-Carolinas-Club-Sea-Ray-Members I thought it might be of interest to folks who haven't done the waterway in this area or who...

2012 Rendezvous--Coastal Carolinas Club Sea Ray Members

Any interest in a short Club Sea Ray Coastal Carolinas Rendezvous this year? Maybe for a lunch, a morning, or an afternoon? We already have a group called Carolina Boaters that meets for weekend events (some on the coast), but I'm wondering if coastal CSR members who don't have time for weekend...

Repairing Lofrans Progress 1 Windlass Motor

The motors are available from Imtra, but are not cheap. So, when mine started slowing down and finally quit working a month or two ago, I removed it, disassembled it, and cleaned the brushes and commutator, reassembled, and tried it on the work bench using battery jumper cables and a 12 volt...

    Adding an Autopilot to a 1997 290DA

I did this back in 1997, and it's worked very well since then. Lately I've seen a couple of threads about installing autopilots on smaller Sea Rays, so I thought this might be of interest to a few people. I installed the Simrad AP14. The AP14 was discontinued in 2010, but a few are still...

Video of Running Offshore on Autopilot--Memorial Day 2011

Couple of videos of our run north in my 290 about 8-12 miles offshore from St. Helena Sound near Dataw Island, SC to the Charleston sea buoy on Memorial Day. We used the autopilot pretty much the entire 60 mile run, making for a very enjoyable trip. Seas were 2' most of the way and it was a...

Bravo 3 with Different Pitch Props Front and Rear

A friend I was boating with last weekend told me he noticed the props on his 1997 270DA Bravo 3 (7.4l engine)were different pitches, one a 22 pitch and the other a 24 pitch. I told him they should be the same pitch and 24 pitch is the SR recommended pitch for his boat/engine combo. Got an email...

    Nice Morning for a Cruise

There's always something going on at the ramp next to the marina. Saturday morning I was sitting on the dock next to boat, when I heard a big splash and looked up. I rubbed my eyes, and then grabbed the phone and took a picture. No lines or fenders ready, but at least they're obeying the No...

    Carolina Boaters Headed to Bimini

Three boats so far signed up. We'll be doing the June 23-27 Bahamas Fling Bimini Bay Resort trip. We'll trailer down from near Charleston a few days early. I've been discussing with Barryg on CSR, who I believe is also doing this trip. Anyone else headed over? Should be a great time! Carolina...

I Must Go Down to the Seas Again

Okay, the title is a little dramatic, but we're planning another Carolina Gang Rendezvous, and we thought we'd start a new thread to begin planning where we'll meet and where we'll go. I wanted to have a little fun with the title and draw attention. We've done two Rendezvous in/near...

Replacement Wiper Motor 290DA for $60

Thought I'd post this for anyone else needing a wiper motor for a 1990s vintage Sea Ray. My port wiper had gotten to the point that it could not overcome the drag of the wiper rubbing on the windshield. Since it looked like a replacement would be over $100, I worked on it for hours hoping I...

Yet Another Way to Carry a Dinghy

This is hardly revolutionary or new, but I thought I'd post some pictures of a very satisfactory way I've been carrying my dinghy lately. This might be of interest to some of the folks that are looking for a way to carry a dinghy, but don't have room to store it aboard and/or don't want to...

Caught this from my marina a few weeks ago. The other guy's boat should be named "Workin".

    2009 Charleston Rendezvous

We're doing another rendezvous in Charleston this year and everyone is invited. Traburne got us going with his post back in January, that has now gone 19 pages with discussions and plans. As the date approaches, and to really get the ball rolling, we felt we needed to start this new post. Check...
