Searay 340 Sundancer 2006, bow deck water intrusion

Good day everyone! A friend of mine is trying to buy a 2006 340 sundancer. Just had a survey done yesterday. According to the surveyor, the boat is impeccable...other than a soft forward deck. It does have those inboard rails, where you attach a bow pad. He said that may be the culprit. He used...

    Engine overheating

yeah, I'm dealing with the same problem right now. as scoflaw said, bravo-itis, which the hose from the gimbal housing through to the transom. the plastic insert can collapse, or debris can clog the hose, restricting water flow. I don't have a sea strainer, so I also checked my oil cooler and...

'06 496 mag bravo 3 over heating at higher speed

Thanks guys, I was thinking about bypassing the transom housing hose. There is a pad, in the bilge right near the seawater pump, to put a scoop and seacock. Probably add a strainer as well. Back flushing is a good call as well. Thanks again

'06 496 mag bravo 3 over heating at higher speed

Hi everyone, I've developed a new issue this season. I boat in saltwater. First trip out ran boat up on plane was at normal temp, 170-ish. Pushed throttle to about 3400 rpm (about 24-25 knots). Temp gauge started to slowly rise to 200+. And alarm went off. Backed down to displacement speed and...

    Replacing Cool Fuel III

Yeah, that was a good call, sealing the waterjacket. Another of the many great engineering designs by Mercruiser. Not! Oh, and lets not forget about the paint flaking issue. I also like the fact that they offer a "FIX", but not a recall, and charge the customer $100. more. Awesome!

    Replacing Cool Fuel III

Hey guys, I had the same water leakage problem as many of you had, with the gen 3 module. I successfully reamed and taped my older case to accept threaded fittings. The key here is your case cannot be too corroded. You have to go to a 1/2" fitting, because the existing hole is bigger than 3/8"...

    8.1L Raw Water Pump

Ya the grooves were in the aft section of the pump. The kit I was talking about is for our brass pumps. My buddy had the same problem with his brass pump so I rebuilt it for him. They also have a complete rebuild kit for a little more money.

    8.1L Raw Water Pump

Hey mike I have an '06 496 mag in my boat I have a spring loaded tensioner as does my buddy with an '09 engine. My engine developed a problem with not enough suction. I took pump apart and found the impeller was ok but there was a groove cut into the brass. I found a place in Louisiana that had...

    sporatic alarm and rpm drop

Hey guys I have an '06 496 mag in my '98 270 sundancer. I get a quick alarm and corresponding rpm drop of about 200 . This happens at any rpm range. All gauges are showing normal. This happens virtually every time I run the boat. Any ideas? Thanks

8.1L engine surging and rough idle

Hi everyone, i have an update to share about my engine issues, if anyone is interested. I found out that my IAC muffler was really dirty, so IAC wasn't working well. Also, the running rough issue was the result of a spark plug wire boot that burned through and was arcing to ground. The...

8.1L engine surging and rough idle

Hi folks, happy boating season! I replaced my old 7.4l engine with an '06 8.1L (496 mag, bravo 3). the engine ran great, except for the fact that every once in a while i would get a quick beep from the alarm, and the engine would cut out for a split second. guardian system kicking in, i guess...

Used or rebuilt 8.1L mercruiser horizon engine

Hey Mark, ya you're right, i was down in the engine compartment today, looking around, and i did notice they were the oval ports. I don't know why i thought they were the rectangular ports. Alzheimers?:) Thanks Jon

Used or rebuilt 8.1L mercruiser horizon engine

You're right, i do have the Gen.VI, w/ the rectangle shaped intake ports. Good point about the distributor, i didn't know about that. I'm guessing differant intake height, or distributor length? I'm probably going to pull the old engine now, so i can clean up the engine compartment and get it...

Used or rebuilt 8.1L mercruiser horizon engine

Hey sdarc, you're right i do have all winter, thats a good thing! In my opinion, buying any reman is a crap shoot. They claim they use only "freshwater" blocks, who knows for sure? I just know where mine has been,(14 years in saltwater), and i don't want to take the chance after seeing the head...

Used or rebuilt 8.1L mercruiser horizon engine

Hi saopm, i actually talked to doug russell himself, because i saw a whole package deal for around 16k, ( out of my budget!), but he said he could split up the package, $11,500 for the engine, still out of my budget, though :) You're right they are in worcester,ma.

Used or rebuilt 8.1L mercruiser horizon engine

Ya realistically i'm leaning toward the 7.4, it makes the most sense. But, i really would like the 8.1! It's funny, the rest of my motor looks like you could eat off of it. I keep everything clean and painted, too bad its like a cancer patient inside! I checked out freshwater cooling its only...

Thinking about Greenport on the way to Block

Hey Mark, i think i saw/talked to you at Mitchell Park . We were there at the same time. Did you pull in with another boat (30' footer?) We were there with another boat also, (26 Four winns) Everything in your post seems to match the guys we met in Greenport! Let me know if that was you. Thanks Jon
