    Trade anyone?

Interesting idea. That would stop the complaints about poor ventilation in the cuddy cabin. Heavy chop would be more of an adventure. Seriously, still hoping for a trade, but will list the boat for sale if nobody steps up.

Winterizing - Did I forget something?

On most points I agree with the sentiment that the manufacturer knows best. They certainly may in this case as well. My reluctance is based on the idea that opening a perfectly-good cooling system risks a leak or a damaged fastener. I also do not see how pumping the lay-up fluid through the...

    Trade anyone?

I am purchasing a property on a private lake where the covenants limit the boat size to 20 feet. My 215 EC is 18 inches over the limit, and there are no exceptions. I need to sell the 215 EC and buy a smaller boat, but perhaps there is someone with just what I need looking for a larger boat...

Winterizing - Did I forget something?

I spray penetrating oil between the leaf springs in the trailer and lube the zerc fittings on the spring carrier. That makes the trailer feel less stiff when I pull it out in the spring.

    215 EC trailering?

+1. I have 4-wheel drum brakes on the trailer, and I do not even notice the weight of the boat when braking. Also +1 on keeping the outdrive in the trailering position. It will scrape if it is down.

    Replacing the Horn

Horns have a waterproof cover. When the cover degrades, water gets in.

Idle speed, hit rock, small ding in prop, anything to worry about?

I would grind the damaged place smooth for two reasons: 1) you don't want to cut yourself, and; 2) the prop will be less prone to fatigue if you smooth any sharp gouges. I agree you are fine. A prop shop can make it look like new if you want to send it off during the winter.

    Speakers popping while trimming

I think your problem could be the high-voltage kick-back when the coil in the trim motor receives power (think of an ignition coil). Connect a 12 V surge supressor across the terminals of the trim pump motor. That will clip the high-voltage, and eliminate the pop if kick-back is the source.

    Has anyone tried Bunk Slicks???

I have seen rollers as replacement for the wood bunk board. Has anyone tried those? My first Sea Ray had an Easy Loader trailer, which had a roller array and no bunk boards. I much prefer that to bunk boards, because it was easy to winch the boat out of the water.

    215 ec

Get a voltmeter and verify the the voltage reading. It sounds like the voltage regulator in the alternator is blown. You will boil the battery and damage the electronics in the boat if you expose them excessive voltage. At speed, 13.8 volts is optimal, and in no case should exceed 14.5. A...

How strong is the Tow Eye

When shopping I saw a boat with a pulled ski anchor. The story was that it happened pulling only a single skiier. The man was huge, however, and the boat probably had some rot issues. How hard can your boat pull? I expect those of us with 4 and 6 cylinder motors have less to fear. The...

    third time not a charm

Marine Max may have a bad batch of thermostats. Laser pyrometers are fine if there is no other way, but IR accuracy depends on the color and the surface condition of the target, and the errors are much larger than the small change you are attempting to measure (I work in a lab and do both IR...

What he said. Plus grow your arms about a foot longer.

    Not hitting max WOT RPM

I have the opposite problem. I have a 3-blade, 19P stainless prop, and the engine will over-speed if I do not throttle back. I am assuming the 4200 WOT limit is for 2-barrel operation, and the 4-barrel needs to close once the boat is at speed. I am making 34 MPH on the GPS when I throttel back...

215 Express Cruiser Top Speed Question?

Speedometer on my 215 is trim-sensitive and optimistic. Is your speed GPS, or what the speedometer is reading? I recall seeing over 40 on the speedo, just me and one passenger and not much other load. The GPS seemed to think I was running 36 MPH. Mine has the 4-barrel, and a 19P stainless...

    Trim-Tilt motor? Or battery?

The starter motor and the tiit motor can have different stall characteristics. You need to look at the actual voltage. Anything below about 10 volts with the electric motor running means your battery is either bad or needs a charge. If the motor has 9.5 or more volts across its terminals and...

    Best method for choppy conditions?

There is no substitute for size and weight when the water is choppy. A deep-V hull works better than a standard or flat bottom. I noticed a huge improvement in ride when I went from a 20.5 ft Seville to my current 215 EC (21.5 ft). The 215 EC is about 800 lb heavier due to the cabin, bigger...

    Alpha or Bravo Drives?

Both of my boats have Alpha drives. Bravo drives have dual counter-rotating props. From what I understand, Bravo drives are more effective, particularly at low speed. The only downside I see for the Bravo is higher initial cost, and higher maintenance/repair costs. On balance, I wish I had a...

    Removing stickers from gelcoat?

I used adhesive remover and a terry cloth rag. It took a little rubbing, but you could not tell where the decals where when I was done. Gelcoat on Sea Rays is pretty tough.

Take A Look At This Trailer...

Congratulations. Did you get to keep the wheels and tires? Post here if you want to sell them. The axles are probably solid steel, and therefore OK to use as well. It is a shame people use the legal process to delay something they should do right away. Lawyers make a living doing that, and...
