I have had some luck working on the outdrive while in the lift using a small floating platform I built - about 4' x 6'. I lash it snuggly so that it can't move much side to side and sit on a bucket, running the lift up/down to first provide access and then to get it "just right" for working on...
Hi! 2005 Sea Ray 240 SD, 350 Mag MPI Bravo III. I bought my boat planning to rediscover an old hobby. I forgot that a second hobby came with it - Boat Mechanic. o_O
We have a love/hate relationship with the boat. I hear this is pretty typical for an older boat. She is a joy to operate...
Lol - I’m not going to argue with that! I was on my way to the trash when I thought I should offer it up in case anyone is looking for a cheaper solution.
I replaced the Cool Fuel module with a new one this year and have the old module sitting here collecting dust. Body, old style raw water cooling bracket, painted cap, filter cup and cap. I believe it does not have any leaks, although there are signs of pitting/corrosion in the cooling passages...
My suggestions for you or anyone else considering the older 240 Sundeck (~2001-2010):
- Get the 350 MAG MPI or 383 Stroker. I love the power of our 350 and I think I'd be dissapointed with water sports with anything less
- Watch out for the earlier ones and make sure that you are new enough...
I recently replaced the trim sending unit and am having the same experience. Sometimes it happens so frequently that the SC gauge is practically unusable. I suspect that it shouldn't be doing this and that I have an electrical connection problem somewhere.
I did find a workaround, which is to...
I do and currently use it on my iPhone, although am experiementing with running on a dedicated iPad. I like the Android setup that JDinTN shared in a subsequent post.
I had to install a hub and then get an additional cable to go from the hub to the SC gauge.
Hub: 878492K14
Cable: Mercury...
Hi Michael,
I may have had and fixed the same problem... similar symptoms: My 2005 SD240 w/350 MAG MPI was stalling at idle. Was a real PITA when docking. I think that when the engine died the SC gauge would show a disconnected message, but I'm not 100%.
I tried swapping the IAC (Idle Air...
I have a Bravo outdrive and had a thru-hull flush installed last year. I'm posting to share my experience.
In my opinion, simply - OMG so much easier than the muffs. They required a level of acrobatics and flexibility that my 53 yo body hard a very hard time accomplishing. I added a hose...
My CF3 replacement notes:
On my 2005 SD240 with the 350 MAG MPI I have a rather small space to work, in particular on the starboard side where the CF3 module is located. I found that some additional disassembly made it much easier:
(of course, take necessary precautions such as disconnecting...
Hi Chris,
I can relate! My 2005 350 Mag MPI had a fuel issue. High pressure pump failed. When I got into the CF3 modules I found that had significant corrosion in multiple locations, as well as breaking off two bolts while trying to remove the pressure regulator and top cap.
I was looking...
I have a 2005 SD240 with 350 Mag. It runs just under 160. I had all sorts of trouble with overheating last year and eventually had a through hull intake installed.
Cool fuel modules #8M0047215 are available again. I see them showing in stock at quite a few marine part sites and on ebay. I had seen them out of stock "indefinitely" for the past few weeks I have been looking. They are not cheap, $1600 delivered (incl tax and shipping). For my 2005 motor...
FWIW, I had a flush kit installed late last year. Love it! I keep my 2005 SD 240 on a lift and while I do have a platform back there, it is quite the stretch to get the muffs on. This is so much easier than getting down under the swim platform to use the muffs.
The cover by the stern door is a fire access hatch. If you have an engine fire you open the cover and dump the contents of your fire extinguisher through that access hatch.
Of course, if you have an engine fire
- Turn off the engine
- Life jackets on and muster at the bow
-...
Thank you, please note that revision has the wire going to the 50A fuse protected by the newly installed 100A fuse. The connection at the starter through the 90A fuse is removed from the equation.
A short in the 50A feed while the alternator is running is not protected in either design, which...
