Gear Lube leak from Pitot hole on Front of Bravo 3

Thanks so much for the reply. I will pressure test the lower unit. If we are losing pressure, then I will split those halfs and check the seals and look for any damage. (The drive have to my knowledge never been split). Mike

Gear Lube leak from Pitot hole on Front of Bravo 3

I have noticed a very small amount of gear lube on my driveway under the drive. It seems it is leaking from my pitot hole on the front of the drive. What might be causing this? Seal? Would pitot have gotten plugged with water still inside and froze. (My mechanic says that this is unlikely and...

Need info on maintenance of AC units. 1. How do you flush with fresh water?

Easy... 1. CLOSE A/C Seacock/Pickup (Important if boat is in water, or you will sink). It is usually in the Bilge. Refer to your specific boat's user manual to locate. 2. Remove hose going from A/C Seacock/Pickup to the pump. (I usually unhook my hose on the pump side by the strainer between...

    Take a look at manifolds/elbows

Yes, I would just replace. Remove the manifold, block the hose ports and test by pouring Acetone in the water side. If any leaks to your exhaust side, then replace. (I really only recommend this if this is a fresh water boat as the Manifolds, risers and elbows last much longer). If salt water...

Engine Overheated and now boat wont start, need help. Possible Causes?

I'm glad to hear that everything was dry. Please bump the engine over a couple of times before checking the plugs to make sure they didn't dry while sitting. I still trying to solve the mystery of how water got there in the first place. Was the impeller missing any vanes/blades when you removed...

Engine Overheated and now boat wont start, need help. Possible Causes?

I agree with what was said above about the bad pump not causing the water ingestion. Definitely change your thermostat. There is a reason why the water got in there, and it might be secondary from the overheating. If you are going to change out the riser and elbow gaskets, remove the manifolds...

Engine Overheated and now boat wont start, need help. Possible Causes?

It’s not necessarily difficult, but really depends on how much real estate you have on sides of motors. Keep an eye and regularly check each of the plugs for awhile after running. Also, change oil 2 or 3 times and after each run, quickly check your oil through your remote drain after each use...

Engine Overheated and now boat wont start, need help. Possible Causes?

Please please check your plugs to make sure you aren’t getting any water after running for awhile. I know it is a pain, but important to be on top of things. Sometimes it isn’t apparent until letting it sit for a couple of hours after running, as the water in manifold will leak. It is possible...

Engine Overheated and now boat wont start, need help. Possible Causes?

If you had water in your cylinders, It’s very likely you have water in the oil. (Bet on it). It isn’t obvious from the dipstick. It will be obvious from the first couple of drips from your remote drain. Was the water on both sides, or just one side of engine?

    310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

You can replace the starter. I have stern drives, so I throw a pillow and a blanket on top of the engine. (Remove wires and two bolts). I did it myself. It is very doable, just not terribly comfortable as some blood rushes to the head. Much easier in a 310 than a bowrider... (I know from...

    Electrical Mystery, Batteries are Good!

I have a bit of a mystery. The only recent work done on boat was the replacement of a starter. We have had a bunch of rain here, and we were running the boat in the rain (with cover), so I'm doubtful there might be a problem with water shorting things out as the boat engine was dry, but am open...

6.2 MX MPI 2007 Gas Sterndrive Water in Oil and Cylinders

Hello Folks, 2007 310 Sundancer twins with 6.2 Gas MPI MX (Sterndrive). Just wanted to get some ideas. I had an overspeed alarm on my starboard engine. (Please note that my engine has never overheated). It seemed to have run fine and we went back to dock. Had a hard time starting and then a...

    New 400 Sundancer

Hello Folks, I'm looking at the following boat (400 Sundancer), and thought I would begin a thread about this boat to see if there are any new owners out there and more importantly, what they think about this vessel. Something really draws me to this vessel, (coupe and open-air feel, beautiful...

bravo 3 leaking gear oil at props

Oil going out usually indicates problem w/prop shaft seals. Water coming in and mixing w/gear oil (usually a full reservoir) usually means a loose washer on lube fill points (most probable), crack in lower unit, or a bad seal on the upper drive side.
