Lithium Iron Phosphate battery charging from engine alternators

Thanks, DT, I think I'm going to go for it. Get two Orion 12/24V 15A units from Victron, wire one between the port house (12V) batteries and the lithium batteries (24V), and the other between the starboard house batteries (12V) and the lithium batteries. I plan to incorporate 60A fuses on the...

Lithium Iron Phosphate battery charging from engine alternators

Hi, I have arranged four 280 A-hr LiFePO4 batteries into a 24V "generator" battery bank. These are wired into my main circuit panel as the generator output via a 3000W inverter to provide 120V house power. The batteries can currently be charged via solar panels (900W total) as well as from shore...

    Boarding ladder

Hi, I would like some advice on best boarding ladders for boarding/de-boarding to/from fixed docks (that is, from the side deck). In our normal cruising area of Long Island Sound most marinas have floating docks, so we board on/off the swim platform. But as we noticed cruising south, the norm...

    Synchronizer gauge stopped working

Ok, you convinced me…better start saving my $ for the Aetnas!

    Synchronizer gauge stopped working

Is it possible, likely that the flex cables are worn, and that causes erratic RPM signals to tachs?

    Synchronizer gauge stopped working

Follow up report…I did try to measure Hz on wires coming to the tach, but didn’t get any reading that made sense. Gave up on that. I just finished a weeks trip from CT to MD, 35+ hours of cruising. I used the Glendinning synchronizer most of the way, and it worked fine, until the last day, when...

    VacuFlush toilet sealing, again

Hi, this is my second post about this topic, but I need some expert VacuFlush advice now. I replaced the water valves, spring cartridge, ball, and seals on both my toilets (Mansfield type 848) a few months back. One has worked flawlessly since then, the other has an intermittent leakage of water...

    Cruising up the Delaware River?

Thanks to all for your experienced advice. I’ll review the options and decide when I get closer to the departure date, seeing what the weather and tides are like.

Window track for older SeaRay (1989)

Thanks for the tip, Chris. I’m wondering if the window tracks on your boat are the same as mine…which specific track on their website did you get?

    Cruising up the Delaware River?

Hi, in planning our trip south from CT to Annapolis in the coming weeks, we are considering doing a side trip up the Delaware River to Camden to see friends that live in Philadelphia. Any warnings or suggestions for doing so? Any marinas that are recommended?

    The (dreaded) insurance question

Follow up from the OP, after much trial and denials, I was able to get boat insurance fairly easily and inexpensively through Gallagher Charter Lakes agency, underwriter is Progressive Specialty Insurance. No layups requirements, coastal waters covering all US and Canada.

    The (dreaded) insurance question

Richard, what do you mean regarding ”self-insuring the hull”?

    The (dreaded) insurance question

Good idea, which I have done, but they are not insuring any boats in southern US. I need to find a new carrier, which will be a challenge. The age of my boat and the recent hurricane activity in FL may prohibit me from going south altogether.

    The (dreaded) insurance question

Hi, my wife and I have our boat registered and USCG documented in CT. We plan to cruise south to Florida later this year. We plan to cruise/dock for about 5 months while in FL. Do we need to get a FL insurance policy, or can we get an addition/endorsement on our current policy to cover our time...

How far per day on the ICW?

What is your draft, Richard? Mine can make it through 3’ if I go slow.

How far per day on the ICW?

Yeah, there don’t appear to be any Waterway Guide warnings about the GB lock, so hopefully that’s a non-issue. YES! I’ve downloaded all Bob423 tracks and updating the most recent ones for Aquamap. There are a great help!

How far per day on the ICW?

Hi, my wife and I are cruising south from CT to FL starting mid-October. I have cruised south to the Chesapeake a couple times, and I think I have our overnight stops planned well to Norfolk. Going south on the ICW from Norfolk, about how many NM should one realistically average per day...
