Busted Alpha One Gen Two Outdrive

I can categorically state I never hit anything , for one I boat in the sea and never go anywhere near the shallows, and two, the prop was perfect and unmarked, as was the rest of the drive casing etc. If it makes any difference I was running the merc hi five stainless five bladed prop. My...

Busted Alpha One Gen Two Outdrive

I had a similar failure (upper gears failed), when my boat was 3 years old/200 ish hours. Except my boat had the 5.0mpi not the 350mag. I had the drive rebuilt and it was ok for another 4 years, 200 ish hours, until I sold it, I presume its still ok now. I just put my failure down to it being...

    Not making RPMs

I had a similar sounding problem, the engine wouldnt rev past 4200rpm, the proper max revs should be 4600-5000rpm. So I replaced the distributor cap and the spark plug wires and instantly I was back to the proper max revs again.

    Why?

I had a lot of the same problems with my 200 select that you have all mentioned, especially the use of self tapping screws where things should be bolted. When I raised this issue on this forum a few years ago I was generally rounded on by a few people for daring to criticise sea ray. I've...

Service life of manifolds and risers

The general consensus on dry joint manifolds is to replace when the water passages get blocked, so yours seem about ready for replacement. The usual mode on failure for the wet joint manifolds was that that gasket sealing surface between manifold and riser would become corroded and let water...

Increasing torque on 190 Sport with 4.3 liter?

try mercruisers hi five prop. Its what I used on my 200 select (with 5.0 mpi) for wakeboarding. improves the holeshot a lot, but you'll lose a couple of mph off the top speed and your fuel economy will be a bit worse

7 years with a Sea Ray 200 Select

Hi All, Just a few quick responses. Regarding the 'failure list' - -I'm not complaining about it, just thought I'd list everything that had failed in the years that I owned the boat. Thought it might interest some people. The only thing I'm annoyed about on that list is the drive failure, and...

7 years with a Sea Ray 200 Select

Hi All, I bought my 200 Select brand new in 2006, and have enjoyed it over the last 7 seasons. I think I may be selling it on soon and getting a different boat , but thought I'd summarise my 7 years with the boat. Its a 2006 200 Select with a 5.0mpi engine and alpha 1 drive. In 7 seasons I've...

should i leave an I/O in a salt water slip?

regarding replacing the anodes whilst still in the water - I've replaced a few of mine whilst still on the water, I put a snorkel and mask on and jumped in with a screwdriver/spanner. I think its technically possible to do them all. but probably a little awkward to get the correct...

should i leave an I/O in a salt water slip?

My boat ( A 200 select with alpha 1 drive) has been kept moored in salt water all its life. It is now 7 years old, and comes out of the water once per year for a service and the be re antifouled etc. - Definitely leave the drive down, not up (unless for some reason you cant) - as above, it...

Mercruiser 5.0l MPI running data. Check mine and check yours!

To throw a bit more data into the mix, this was taken from my 2006 5.0mpi. oil pressure@3000rpm= 60psi oil pressure@750rpm=45psi coolant temp@3000rpm = 160f

2007 sea ray 210 select vs 2005 sea ray 200 select

I have a 2006 200 select, which I think is pretty much identical to the 2005 version you are looking at. Mine has the factory installed tower, the 5.0mpi engine/alpha 1 drive, and full width sunpad. The 200 select and the 210 select are exactly the same length overall (6.4m), I reckon...

Water in 2 cylinders when de-winterizing, what to do now. block or head gasket issue?

Re: Water in 2 cylinders when de-winterizing, what to do now. block or head gasket is I'm interested because I have a 2006 200 select that lives in salt water, ie 365 days of the year, I've owned it since new, and have done 400 hours in total. And I'm lead to believe that the dry joint...

Water in 2 cylinders when de-winterizing, what to do now. block or head gasket issue?

Re: Water in 2 cylinders when de-winterizing, what to do now. block or head gasket is A happy outcome, great news. Can you summarise what you think the problem was? Was it just a crack in the wall of the water jacket in the risers? Caused by water freezing as a result of not drainingthem...

    Taking boat into the ocean

You'll be fine. Always have all the equipment the guys above have mentioned on board, don't be afraid to turn back, or not go out.its not much fun in a heavy chop anyway. It would also be prudent to take a GPS preferably loaded with charts for your area. The boat will be more capable than...

    smartcraft speedo fluctuating

Its tucked very tightly behind the water trap/gutter that the blower vents through, so really I need to remove this. I'll have a crack at it next time I get some quality boat time to myself without the family hasslng me (which means it'll prob never happen) I was looking for an excuse to fit a...

    smartcraft speedo fluctuating

I'm pretty sure its a faulty pitot transducer. If I set the Cal settings to pitot=off and paddle= off, the speed does not move. The problem is its a major pain to get to the pitot, virtually impossible without dismantling lots of parts of the boat. I have looked into buying a system speedo so...

    smartcraft speedo fluctuating

Ok, well here's a spanner in the works. have just gone into the cal2 menu and there is no option to set GPS as the source under the external sensors section. I just have options for pitot or paddle wheel. The smartcraft software is v3.04 Anyone got any ideas why I can't see GPS as an option?

    smartcraft speedo fluctuating

To answer my own question, I have found a globalsat br355 receiver on eBay for £30, which apparently outputs the nmea format. I'll also need a 12v to 5v converter, which costs £5. So I should be able to convert to GPS based speed for a total of £35. That's probably cheaper than a new pitot...

    smartcraft speedo fluctuating

Thanks all for the input. To answer a few of the questions:- The guage is the one without buttons. Its definately running from a pitot and not GPS. There's no leaking water. I will try and get to the pitot transducer, its quite tight back thereon my boat, but I guess I should be able to...
