They are pretty rare, especially to find used, in good shape, and for sale! Mine was bad and we had to make a new one. Kind of a pain to make one, especially because it's hard to find Teak in the dimensions you need, and when you do find it the Teak can be tough to work with. I've seen...
Thanks for updating the post KC, it's great to see what other people have done with a similar boat to your own. I really like the microwave placement. Winter project for Berth Control... Check.
It hasn't on mine. I'm not saying it the "right fix", but it worked for me. I just have a hard time justifying pulling a motor and basically rebuilding it because there is a bad seal. I figured that if I pulled the motor to do the seal I would just rebuild it any ways, so there was not a lot...
sorry, never heard of it. They usually show rpm's on a digital readout with some lines or dials to help you sync the motors. You really don't NEED a synchronizer though, just tune them in by the tachs to get close and then by ear. I used to obsess over keeping them synced when cruising, now I...
I had a motor that did something similar to this one time, the timing belt had skipped a cog and the same thing could have happened to your chain. Unfortunately it's not that easy of a thing to check. I think the best way would be to pull the tappet cover and make sure the valves are all...
That coolant leak is a big deal. It's leaking from a seal on the cam, you need to pull the motor and have the cam redone and put a new seal on it. It's a real bummer. Mine started leaking a couple years ago, but I just put a jar of "K-seal" in the coolant tank and that took care of it. My...
I replaced my pulpit like this too. I made a new teak one, but same principle. It extends back over the locker hatch and I really like it. That way you can mount the windlass right on the pulpit and it looks clean, works great, and actually makes the pulpit stronger because it is fastened...
Great job, really really impressive! :smt038
Don't feel so bad about the money, I did a similar double take when I added up all the stuff I had done to my boat after the first year of ownership. It was about 6,000 in "little stuff". That's about what I spent on the boat! The good news...
Really!?!?!? You do a LOT of trolling/fishing? Are you the original owner to account for all 3,000 hours? Seems surprising since my boat has had BOTH outdrives rebuilt and it has under 1,000 hours on each alpha one and they are powered by four cylinders.
The alpha's are prone to go out on that boat. The 454 or 350 both tear them up because of the power needed to move that size boat. Depending on how hard and how much you boat, you may see a decent life out of one though.
As for the boats themselves, you get a lot of useful space out of a small...
I use a 2,000 watt Honda and it's been fine. It very easily runs the battery charger, lights, fans, fridge, ect. The toaster, microwave, and coffee maker are a different story. It will run one of them at a time plus the other stuff, but that is all.
One time at a raft-up the guy a few boats...
Bringing up an old thread here.
I just bought a dinghy and was wondering what was the best way to store it. The manual says to store it inflated to a little below full pressure or rolled up in the bag. Inflated seemed like the best option to me, but then a friend told me that he was told by a...
I did the alternator on only one of my motors. It works fine, but it's not really ideal. The reason I did that was because the other motor has a power steering pump on it that goes where I put the alternator.
The single alternator puts out enough power, It's just tough to get the single...
By the way, I love the boat, I think the 270 is a great boat that does a LOT for it's size. If you can find one that is in nice shape I can't see how you could go wrong.
I have a 270 with the four cyl's. They suck. They have enough power, I can get on plane with over 1,000 lbs. of gear and people on the deck and a full tank of fuel with no tabs, no problem. Top speed is 30 to 35, which is plenty fast enough for me. I cruise at 25mph and fuel consumption is...
Ooooh I can't wait! I just bought a new dinghy from West Marine and I am anxious to get back on the water.
They have some great sales going on, by the way. On top of the sales you can type in "AFFWEST" in the coupon section and get 10% off above the sale prices too.
That sounds like a lot more than the 2 I wanted to spend. Main reason I think mine will be cheap though is because I already have the motor, and mounting an outboard is a LOT cheaper and easier than what you were thinking of doing. No propshaft, electrical system, transmission, helm controls...
