Thanks guys - I'll take anything I can get ! And of course would be happy to pay for a rental....will look into the Fox Marine. I don't know what version I have, how do you find out ? My engines were installed in the Spring of 2000, they are 7.4 MPI's. S/N 0L395734 & 35.
From what little I know...
Looking at the Rinda - They have the Techmate Pro, The Techmate Pro C & S...is it just the adapters that come with them that sets them apart ? Can you rent one anywhere ?
I got new injectors from Boats Unlimited and unfortunately I still have the same problem, sputtering above 3,000 RPM. Thinking about next steps but going back to basics for the moments. Checking timing, Spark Plugs and Compression but I've already been there a month or two ago. Weird problem !
The coil improved my power a bit, but not the sputtering. I just ordered the injectors from John, you're right - he knows injectors ! I'm still not 100% confident they will correct my problem, but confident enough to give them a try. Stay tuned !
Thanks! Has anyone tried the sets they sell on eBay ? They have refurbished sets for $350 or so. That’s probably equivalent to sending your own set out...
K, I could try that easy enough and BTW, thanks for working with me Scoflaw. I see you're from Cape Cod...I'm in Falmouth.
So I just changed the coil - will see how it goes with that tomorrow. But I also observed the fuel pressure on my other engine (Port). When I engage the fuel pump, it...
What do you mean by "Total Timing" ? I have the timing tool and set that to 8 degree's BTDC. But this sounds like something different...
Honestly I doubt the injectors too. I have one spare injector but with my luck, it would be eight try's ! Where are you talking about fo the set ? Nuwave ?
I...
No rust on the plugs and they look typically burned. I don't have a Rinda but will definitely look into one. Do they work well with these engines ?
You know, I have a spare coil and thought about changing it. It's an easy change, so that will be next.
Thanks !
If I don't find anything else I guess I'll have to pull them again and have them checked. I don't know of anyway to isolate an injector that's intermittent other than pulling all of them and sending them out. They're not cheap to replace either.
But I did have them completely done over five...
I have the timing tool and it's to 8 degree's BTDC
Fuel pressure is 40 PSI while sputtering and 40 PSI when it returns to normal operation. But when I shut down the engine, it drops to about 35 PSI and stays there. I'm going to compare that to my other engine today. I had all the Fuel Injectors...
Engine starts and idles fine but once it warms up and I bring it up to cruise speed...around 3,000 rpm - it starts to sputter. RPM's drop by 300 - 500 and it bogs down, even if I open it up, she stays at the sputtering rpm's. Then after about 20 seconds of sputtering, it returns to normal...
I agree with Cape Ronn, a long block may be the way to go, or a straight rebuild might do it for you too. I did the long block about 10 years ago and still have the engine running. But the thing with our engines is, it's getting tough to find parts. Anyway, this is the place I bought my long...
Does anyone have experience with using Sierra's Exhaust Manifolds & Elbows ? It's about time I replaced my setup and I got burned by using Osco's a while back....couldn't keep salt water out of the cylinders. But I've had good luck with other Sierra parts and I wonder if any of you have used the...
Hey Guys,
It's bazaar but it's as simple as if I connect the tach, I get no spark. If I disconnect it (gray wire on the harness), the engine runs fine.
What's confusing is that the tach worked upon commissioning this Spring and suddenly, it didn't. A mechanic thinks it might be something to do...
