I removed it and took the entire thing apart...what a mess it was inside, cleaned everything including the motor brushes, put back together, works great now!
Hi, my 1995 Sundancer 330 DA engine hatch is lifting very slowly to the point where it only moves a little then I have to wait a minute to move it more.
All of my batteries are fully charge, just in case someone thinks that could be the issue, that was my first thought.
So I am looking at a...
Had the same thing..turned out to be a failing systems monitor...basically false alarm.
Note my engine is a 1995 7.4 carb, so not quite as modern as yours....
Old school analog gauges are the best monitor you can get, temp, pressure, etc. they do not interpret anything, just show you the facts...
Yes..crazy part is he was their master mechanic.
I had to take his word for everything as the boat was being transported to me hundreds of miles away. Basically all of the problems the boat had turned out to be his sloppy work.. coolant hoses not clamped, spark plug wires in wrong order (1 was...
If the mechanic had started the motor after he did the work, he would have instantly noticed the back firing and discovered his mistake. Sloppy work is not a mistake.
Mercruiser certified mechanic at a large marina charging $150 hour did all the tune up work. I would and should not think I would have to go over everything they did?
Moral of this story is: Find a trusted mechanic or do it yourself.
So I solved the issue with the motor not getting up to full rpm, took it out, ran for about 30 minutes at 3200 rpm cruising fine.
Stopped the boat for about 1.5 hours offshore to fish, then when tried to start, it started right away, then stalled, then would not start again.
Checked carb and no...
So I figured it out...the secondaries were opening up..the backfiring and not going over 3000 rpm was caused by the previous mechanic misplacing the spark plug wires..he had 2 going into 4 and vice-versa...so it was misfiring.
Terrible mechanic.
I used RCW Transport, owner is Bob Willams, great guy, did a great job at a very good rate!
His number is 407-385-2572
He had transported hundreds of Sea Ray boats, knows exactly how to do it properly.
I am looking for help in running the battery cables from the engine room to a new inverter in the cabin, then tying that into the AC/DC panel in the boat, since there is no generator, I want to use the switch for gen for the inverter so not to accidentally switch on inverter while on shore...
