Maybe a little nuts to start it right now at the beginning of boating season?
What are your plans? I'd love to do the same and build a full length curved cabinet down both sides. Picture dropping a vertical surface from the (curved) plane that includes the window, filling that space with...
Make sure there is no loose gelcoat adjacent to the damage. Feather the area out well and repair it with Marine-Tex. It will be better than original. I've never met a "pro" that I trust more than myself.
Most will directly interchange. I used a complete set from Kendor:

Simply reconnecting all your wiring should cure most gremlins and allow a good inspection. Be sure to upgrade to LED gauge lighting while you're at it. Now would also be...
Definitely do it. It will eliminate the deposits. I think I remember reading the B2 ran the hottest of the Merc drives with the B3 in 2nd and the Alpha and B1 the coolest. Yours is pushing a lot of boat too.
Probably not an issue in fresh water but in salt water be sure to paint the anti-fouling inside the water pickup passages under the plastic covers. I found quite a few barnacles growing in there when I restored my drive. The painter missed this and some other concealed and hard-to-reach areas...
Sanding and a good cleaner works wonders to restore any teak but maintaining it oiled gets old fast. I used satin Cetol on my last boat and wish I had done it again this time. I still have that teak and it looks as good as it did when I refinished it many years ago. I think I have invested twice...
I have a Just Wicked Marine drive shower keeping my Alpha alive. Never had an issue with it. It does require drilling two holes in the cav plate though.
My Halon system indicator illuminates green with ignition on.
I thought I had a bad float switch once when my pump wouldn't shut off but found a twig wedged underneath the float holding it up. Good thing - I don't think I could replace it myself. I had a nightmare once about getting stuck in...
I never looked at my wiring but this is the way that mine is set up. I have an amber 24/7 LED indicating power to the float switch auto 24 hour pump. Another red LED lights when the pump runs regardless if it is triggered automatically by the float switch or manually by the helm switch between...
Never even heard of Philthy Phil's. We have vacation that entire week as well and planned to go south possibly as far as Ft. Myers depending on weather and ambition.
Any plans that week Jonathan?
Oh yeah. I had an old POS Bayliner with a nice old 150 Merc V-6 that did mid 50's with me alone. I added a jack plate, low water pickup/nose cone, and a cleaver surface-piercing prop and it picked up to the mid 70's with no other changes.
