Turns out this unit doesn't fit. It's approx 13" tall and the vertical distance to the bench seat crossbar is 11 3/4". This unit is a Whale F600 6 gallon unit.
Can anyone tell me which model water heater will fit under the aft Salon bench seat?
Thanks for posting all this information.
@dtfeld the layout for the parts is a good idea that I'm going to copy.
At the pricing for this stuff, wastage needs to be kept to a minimum.
Frank, thanks for the quick response. There is CAT ELT coolant in the pressure tank and it was run on a test stand. I was referring to the raw water side and what is the best approach to drain any water (not ELT coolant) from the heat exchanger, transmission oil cooler, fuel cooler and raw water...
Winterizing question for a 3116 engine not in the boat.
Got the starboard 3116 back from T&S Marine. Given how the boat is now buried amongst other boats for the winter, won't be installing the engine until March.
So, wondering what/how to winterize the engine as it's in an unheated garage...
Having rebuilt the transom on mine, I highly discourage anyone from cantilevering a dinghy on the stock swim platform, unless support struts are added.
For the 380 (and possibly others), SeaRay thought it was wise to add the transom coring material over top of an inner layer of gelcoat, then...
I don't think NERYC had the concrete floating docks then. My understanding is there was a plan to replace the aging docks, when a storm came through and did a lot of damage. They were able to get loan guarantees to greatly expand the dock plan and move everyone from mooring balls to floating...
Yes. Engine was rebuilt by T&S Marine in Crisfield MD. They bench tested it before I picked it up. Have a marine diesel mechanic friend who's going to stop by next weekend to take a look. This happens to be a bad weekend to ask for a favor, even if I've known him for 40 years.
Going to do the...
Thanks. Throttle and governor stop good. Fuel hoses good and air filter brand new. Will check other items.
3000 rpm no problem in neutral.
Will check the other items. Engine under warranty so it will get fixed.
Wrong end of the season but better late than never. The boat is finally in the water, after 15 months of refit.
CAT 3116 engines removed and serviced (one rebuilt), generator removed and rebuilt, fuel tanks replaced, transom core removed and replaced with Coosa. New swim platform, Vacuflush...
Should have specified. Under load. Had to make an appointment so didn’t have time to troubleshoot. The port engine had no issues. May be able to get down there tomorrow to investigate.
Today was launch day, after a year of refit. Of course there's a very long list of things remaining, but they can be done at the dock.
Couple of questions for the group.
First, how the heck does one get the 6" exhaust hose over the horn as shown by the yellow circle in the attached picture? I...
Finally got both 3116's started on the hard. They both purr like kittens.:D
Frankly, wasn't prepared for how much water they suck up, even at idle. Had a 10 gallon bucket with what turned out to be an inadequate garden hose.
Since the fuel tanks had been replaced, the Racors and the fuel...
The fun part about reassembling boats (or planes) is when you end up with "extra" parts.
These two cables appear to connect to the starter on one end and are 24" long. The other end is a smaller hole. There is one cable for each engine. They were marked PORT and STBD.
I'm stumped as to where...
Thanks for the links. Pulled the lines off the Port engine and took them to Benz Hydraulics on Saturday (open till Noon).
Made them up for me as I waited. Decided to get lines made for both engines, since I was already there.
Diesel rated with the USCG stamp on the lines.
Thanks again for the...
Where can I get a pair of fuel supply hoses made? Unfortunately, when the starboard Caterpillar 3116 engine was rebuilt, they removed the two hoses shown in the picture (port engine shown) and lost them.
The one hose is shown with an orange trace and the other yellow.
That was the really hard part in the past refits. Having to lay out everything in a diagram, then going over it with someone who knew what they were doing. In my case it was Peter Kennedy at PKYS.com. Given he's a Balmar and Victron dealer (amongst other things), he was able to recommend or...
