The boats in the yard getting bottom paint, propspeed coating, and a good compound, polish and wax. It also had new Shaft Seals from Tidesmarine (one of which had disintegrated internally), and new Cutlass Bearings. Just have to install new vinyl on the bootstrip and the we go back in the...
So back in April, I posted about some engine troubles we were having. We finally got the head off on Monday and discovered where we had a complete lack of compression on #6 of one of our Cat 3126 (1475 hours). It has developed a 3/4" crack from the exhaust port, resulting in a valve seating...
Question for the collective braintrust; We are about to replace the salon carpet as it is pretty worn. The idea of a teak floor with a generator underneath it (Florida Boat) isn't very appealing.
With that in mind how do you remove the carpeted trim pieces around the counter, bar cabinet...
I replaced all four of them @ 100 lbs. Suspa C16-08054 C1608054 20" Gas Prop, Quantity (4), Force 100 Lbs Per Prop, Force Per Set 200 Lbs, Camper Rear Window, Tonneau Cover Lift Supports, W
that was using the part number on the exiting strut as a guide.
So a day of "interesting news"...
Last trip out, as we were coming home, the port engine, a cat 3126 with 1400 hours, started to run a little rough. We got a lot of extra white/gray smoke out of that side. I limped home and got the diesel guy out to take a look.
In doing some diagnostic...
The carpet in my boat was a replacement by the PO. It has manufacturer labels stuck on the back and a SeaRay order sheet stuck to the back. I can look at those when I am next at the boat.
Also, I note that my carpet was provided to the PO by MarineMax. The carpet template should be a...
I had a pleasant maintenance surprise today. My stbd diesel was making a strange howling/whining noise when under load above 2000 rpm or so.
Turned out it was a leak in the boost side of the turbo where the pipe clamp had slipped back down the pipe and was allowing boost air to escape at...
Looking at doing mine now....it looks like I have to release and pivot the generator from side to side to get in there at least. It seems like the exhaust should be far enough out of the way to not have to worry.
I got the Mantus through West Marine. But there do seem to be a whole pile of folks reselling them online...or you can always go to the MFR's website. It just happened that West Marine had the best price and special incentive going on at the same time.
As an update for anyone that's considering something similar; The Mantus M1 44lb anchor fits the bow roller without modification nicely.
As an aside, when I removed the old delta, it was pretty mangled, one of the leaves was bent and also the shank was about 20 degrees off vertical. I am...
I need to replace the anchor on our DB40. The current delta is bent and really doesn't set very well, which caused a bit of a dragging experience this past weekend, and a reset at 2:45am.
I am looking at a Mantus or Rocna in a 35lb or 45lb, and increasing the chain rode to 100' from 25'. I...
We have a 99' with twin 3126's. No bow-thruster and I haven't missed it either. If you have a stiff crosswind, it can make docking in reverse a little tricky, but the trick with that is to not be afraid of coming in a little more quickly than you otherwise would.
By happenstance, I found the compressor in behind a closet the other day, and the sound from my horn is "anemic" at best. Where are the horns located, in the anchor locker? or in the cabinetry?
Glad you had a great day and thanks for the write-up. Hope the engine's not too much of a pain to sort out!
We had a similar day around the West Palm Beach area, had a front-row spot at anchor and enjoyed the fireworks, an uneventful night out on the hook and back the following day!
