    gear shifting issues

Hey all, I'm sorta reviving this thread, I have a question about the issues I'm having. This last weekend, I decided to take apart the throttle control box apart to clean/grease as well as the cables. The four bolts to get into the box was were completely loose and the inside was completely...

    gear shifting issues

I watched and adjusted them accordingly. When I adjusted it exactly the way i was suppose to, wouldn't engage into reverse at all, just clicking. I followed the video from SEI marine products. Does the control cables/ control box all work together to the lower shift cable?

Hello all, In the beginning of the year, we replaced our shift cable, shift shaft , shift lever on our 85' seville mid cabin. The motor/outdrive is a 94' mercruiser 5.0/alpha one gen two out drive. Since then, we have had such a hard time adjusting the shift cable. During the year, it...

    Possible Out Drive Failure?

When you say pull the engine out, completely out of the boat? Or just enough where I can access the coupler. another question, if it was the outdrive itself, it wouldn’t be locking into gear correct? And why wouldn’t the outdrive engage? I just want to know how these things work. Thanks...

    Possible Out Drive Failure?

Hello All, I wanted to get your opinions. This last weekend, I took my dad out fishing for his birthday, As we were approaching our spot, the boat stops in motion, engine revs with high pitched whine. Put her in neutral whine goes away. She would not engage into forward or reverse at all...

    Shift shaft

I received the shift shaft and shift cable. All went without a hitch. The shift shaft on the boat was in much worse shape than the one I posted from my spare outdrive. It was not just bent backwards but the neck was also twisted preventing it from fully engaging into reverse. When we were...

Thank you. I hoping for more like “yeah, that’s how they are.” I went ahead a ordered a new one with the shift cable. Since I’m pulling all that apart, I might as well change that too.

    Shift shaft

Hey everyone. I’m getting ready to replace my shift cable. I was looking at the shift shaft on the lower unit and looks like the neck is bent backwards. I have another alpha 1 stern drive. Looked at that shaft and it also looks like the neck is bent backwards too. Are they this way? Here’s...
