    Advice on Moser Channel

Thanks for the advice and the reminder about the pots. They sure get plentiful after Key Largo and I wasn't thinking about them. Sounds likely to be a Northerly wind, and hopefully not any stronger. As is always the case, weather will dictate how or how far I go (or if I can go). The info on...

    Advice on Moser Channel

I would appreciate any advice/ experience with approaching Key West thru Moser and Big Spanish Channel. I plan to head down from Ft Lauderdale next month. If the wind is from the North, I'll stay in the Atlantic. I was thinking about alternative route if there is a strong Southerly wind. Thanks...

    Hotel/Marina advice in the Keys

I found marina del mar on the charts. It appears to be a good location. I can appreciate Ken's advice about entry, especially the blind corner. Key West Harbor Yacht Club and Hawks Cay look exceptionally nice. Thanks again nick

Nice Marina in Fort Lauderdale Area

I have had good service and am pleased with Harbour Towne Marina in Dania Beach www.harbourtownemarina.net . I use rack storage, so I can't comment on wet slips. It is a 20+ min cruise at idle to Port Everglades.

    Hotel/Marina advice in the Keys

Thank you Ken. Good advice. I think I may go Ft Lauderdale to Marriott Key Largo on day 1, then go for Key West. I keep the boat in FL, but don't live there. I am a novice with limited experience, so Moser Channel on the Bay side looked a little to challenging without local knowlege, but thats...

    Hotel/Marina advice in the Keys

I am looking for suggestions for marinas that would accomodate a 38ft boat with a hotel or other lodging on site between Key Largo and Key West. I would also appreciate any local knowlege about approaching Key West from Hawks Channel south of the 7 mile bridge. Thanks

    Many Thanks CSR

Thanks for all the compliments. I don't have first hand knowlege yet, but I'm told the boat will cruise comfortably at 35knots and burn 30-40 gph. I probabably will be going much slower at around 25knots max. I think 1gallon/mile is a fair guess. The tank is 400gallons, so reasonable cruising...

Well, I guess I could add a livewell and get some Koi, but that may even be more girlyman. There are below deck fishboxes with macerators. I'm storing the fenders there which should be OK if nobody tries to grind them up.

It is a traditional fishing boat, but this is rigged mainly for cruising. Hence no livewell, outriggers, and such. In fact, the 377 is being replaced by the 39 Sport cruiser. Almost the same layout that is 2ft longer and 6'' wider. Apparently these boats are getting more popular for cruising...

As you see from my signature, I did not buy a sea ray, but this site and fwebster through private emails were invaluable in helping me. I have been lurking and learning for several months. My original post explained my dilemma in choosing a boat for cruising in either the Great Lakes or Florida...

    What Binoculars do you use?

Steiner. They are a little pricey, but excellent optics. The more compact models are designed for Bird Watching, but they are waterproof and excellent for quickly spotting Aids to Navigation and comfortable to hold.

    * not boat related * When to put manners aside and speak up

Throw the fruit in the garbage and say thank you, it was wonderful. They can throw the meat away and say thank you it was wonderful. There will be peace on earth and good will, which is really what it is about.

It makes sense to have a boat much closer, in fact alot more sense than 1000 miles away. I'm originally from the Lake Michigan area and it has been a 20+ year dream to own a yacht and spend my summers cruising the Great Lakes. The Market/economic crash hit and I was too heavily weighted to...

Absentee ownership definitely complicated. Frank, your advice is invaluable. I was concerned about security and have heard stories. I will definitely consider who I purchase from. It would be very worthwile to have an interested party assist in maintanence and security ( I can't even send a PM...

The point about chartering (tobnpr) is very valid. I have been chartering for several years on lLake michigan, Lake Erie, North Channel, Georgian Bay, etc. I enjoy fresh water cruising and have made several good friends up there. Only trawlers and sailboats available and I want to cruise faster...

Frank, The boat would be kept in the Great Lakes, over 1,000 miles from home, until I fully retire. I left you a private message with the details. It would be run for 1 month. Many owners have their boats in dry storage for 8 months. My yearly hourly use would be similar to weekend...

    420/44 da

Appreciate all the excellent advice. They sound like great boats with advantages and cost/benefits to each. I was hoping to see a 44 DA at the Miami boatshow, but with the model being discontinued and the new 43, there may not be any to see. I am more traditional and really think the profile of...

    420/44 da

Never owned a sea ray or any boat over 20ft. Chartered Sail and Trawler, but would like to buy express cruiser as I approach retirement. I now know the 420 and 44 DA are the same boat and production stopped after the 2008 model. I have several questions. Is the diesel motor change from 480 to...
