I had a similar stuck in reverse scenario a couple of summers ago, but without the weed. Mine turned out to be that the casing of the shift cable split down one side. Shifting into reverse puts the cable in tension and it worked fine. However, when I tried to shift to neutral or forward the...
First, my thanks to all who contributed to this extremely informative thread. I stumbled on it yesterday while researching an identical failure on my 260DA. A few things I can contribute:
1.) The newer model Rule pivoting float switch is NOT a direct drop in replacement for my original one...
It's just my opinion Terri, but I would have an independent, certified marine surveyor who has no financial interest in the sale perform the survey. While I'm sure your service guy is most likely a good person, it's hard to be completely objective when you have a $$$ interest in making the...
Maybe this is overstating the obvious, but whichever boat you go with GET A PROFESSIONAL SURVEY FIRST.
I bought a 2000 260DA with the 7.4L/BIII used in 2005. It had been wet-slipped in salt water. I was shown a 2 year old survey and decided I didn't need to do it over. BIG MISTAKE. I have...
I agree that they system is an absolute PITA, but I've found that the following sequence works pretty well.
1.) Erect the forward bimini.
2.) Extend the rear legs of the forward bimini to their longest setting.
3.) Wipe the rubber dovetail of the 5 isinglass pieces liberally with ArmorAll...
Yup, I have a cottage with a nice big dock rented for 2 weeks. (I could stay on the boat the entire time but the girls start to whine after 2-3 nights) I'm seriously looking forward to it!
Cheers,
I believe we in NE must have seriously pissed off Mother Nature, and she's whacked us with the sort of weather usually reserved for all those Starbucks-swilling Seattleites. Cool, wet, generally a non-summer so far.
However, as of tomorrow I'm on vacation for two weeks, which I'm sure will...
Sigh.............too bad I'm so far away.
That, and the last thing you need is an old, bald, fat guy hanging around the premises.
Party on, sir!
Cheers,
I have been considering a 2-3 bottle unit on the inside of the cabinet door under my sink. (not sure what your layout is) The door latches positively and the rack could be made deep enough vertically so that it would next to impossible for a bottle to fly out.
Cheers,
Ah well, it's probably better that the sweet voice of reason and restraint the morning after trumps the debauchery of the night before. Or something eloquent like that....
Cheers,
What we REALLY want is pictures, Bill. Especially those taken later in the day when the libations have done their work on inhibitions................
Cheers,
Yeah, I stumbled over that trick a few years ago. The isinglass panels are now mostly a non-event since I discovered the Armor-All on the rubber trick. It's when I get to the sides (screened) and the back that there just doesn't seem to be enough slack without practically having to do chin-ups...
I'm looking for your thoughts on an idea I had over the weekend.
I hardly ever use my camper canvas, as I bought a cockpit cover several seasons ago that I use during the week when I'm away from the boat. I was overnighting this past weekend and there was rain in the forecast so I decided to...
Don't know about anyone else, but I have no desire whatsoever to compete for that dubious distinction. I'm ignorant enough without making a deliberate effort to look that way.....
Cheers,
Bill
Lord, that's awful! Do you/he have any idea what happened? Stuffing box, through hull, cooling hose, heat exchanger................... I guess it could be any of those and more if the engines were removed and reinstalled.
Mine's still on the hard under repair, unfortunately.
Cheers,
Frank's right, you have to wind the wee out of one to make any power, and the fuel economy is pretty awful. They're relatively loud, too.
Mazda did win the 24 Hours of LeMans a few years back, as I recall. Thumped the competition so soundly that the governing body quickly banned them...
I think I am very glad NOT to have made this hit parade. (although Czar of Hideous Outdrive Corrosion might be appropriate)
In a serious moment, I hereby nominate fwebster as Czar of Sound Advice the First Time.
Any challenges to that nomination?
Cheers,
