2000 240 Sundancer windlass anchor set up

Well, in general, you are correct about a woven line being a bit more flexible than a 3-strand. However, once the line gets salty, they get stiff no matter what type of line it is. I think the bigger problem is the amount of rode vs. the size of the anchor locker. Believe me, if I didn't need...

2000 240 Sundancer windlass anchor set up

I have the Lewmar V700 windlass on my 270DA. The original anchor locker door got glassed in and then a seperate gasketed access hatch installed on the starboard side of the windlass - foot controls on the port side. I have a 24# Delta Quickset anchor, 33' of chain, and 300' of 9/16 or 3/4" (I...

    Seeking portlight latch/dog

Ah, a voice from the past! Todd, good to hear from you! I'd taken a hiatus from the list for a variety of reasons, none of which were list-related. Anyway, good to see that there are still familiar faces around. As to my local dealer, they folded. )~; Then the one in the Bay Area folded...

    Seeking portlight latch/dog

Too bad! I can't believe they threw out all those portholes - those things are expensive! There's a marine/boat dismantler not too far away from where I live that I may have to stop by. It's amazing what one can find at those places. I better leave the check book and credit card at home that...

    Seeking portlight latch/dog

Thanks for the help! I did think of checking eBay myself as well, but unfortunately, all they list are the dogs for the hatches. The one I am looking for is for the elyptical portlight (Bomar Classic Series, I think). They are little black latches that rotate on the screw they mount with.

    Seeking portlight latch/dog

I need to replace a portlight latch/dog on one of my Bomar portlights. Anyone know where I can find these? Bomar does not list these parts on their web site. Thanks for the help!

Anyone have/make a liquor bottle rack?

We use the space beneath the step to the cabin door. It has a piece of wood laying in it above the bildge and shower sump pump - not something i need to access all the time. Now if I could only convince the Admiral to keep the bottles upright in that cabinet. I picked up the boat last night...

How to remove radio '94 270

The trim ring can be carefully popped off with a flat screw driver. Use one thin screw driver on each side of the radio to hold the retaining clips/tabs close to the radio, allowing you to pull it forward.

How was your weekend? - some pics

Went to the North Coast (Fort Bragg, Ca.) for some abalone diving. The ocean was a bit upset (8-10 foot seas at 4 seconds!), which made for a very interesting ride in my friend's 26' North River pilothouse. Took blue water over the bow repeatedly while taking seas head on. Quartering the seas...

    Interesting weekend.

Larry, Thanks for sharing! Glad all you suffered was a little hull scuff. Not sure I would have tried what you did, especially with only a single engine. I can just imagine that single engine dying out in a squall like that - ouch! Out here in NorCal we spent the day lounging on Folsom...

    Largest Boat to Trailer???

Hi Chris, We have a couple of guys in our group that regularly trailer their 300DA's. But it's quite load they are hauling, tipping the scales at over 14,000#. They both tow with 1-ton diesels and report no significant problems, even having towed through the Cascade mountains on their way...

    Spill issues when fueling up...

Thanks Todd! Jim did take an awesome picture that accurately conveys not only the serene mood of that particular evening and cove, but of the entire trip! We are definitely looking forward to our next journey to your neck of the water. Frank - good point about the levelness of the boat...

    Spill issues when fueling up...

Yesterday when gasing up the boat on the trailer at Costco, I took my second ever gasoline shower! Yuk! We left the water with the fuel guage showing about 1/8th of a tank. So I figured that I could take on roughly 80 gallons (100 gallon tank) without cause for concern. Up in the San Juans...

How many days before your boating seasons

Gotta' love thos beautiful "winter" days in California! We were in the South Delta on the Mokolume yesterday. After the fog lifted around 11:30 or so, it got into the lower 70's no wind and abundant sunshine! The next weekend the forecast is this nice we'll stay on the hook for the night...

    Calendar Winners, in order

Wow! Thanks for entering that picture, Jim! I can't believe that I will personally be in this calendar. (That's my wife and I relaxing on the dock in Jim's picture....).

Who does winter boating and who is winterized for the duration?

We boat in the winter as well, though less frequent than during the summer months. Part of the reason is that the lakes are dangerously low late in the season and early winter. Once the rains start (if they start) the rising water picks up all kinds of debries and logs from shore. Even the...
