A lot going on this thread. I just stopped by to see how people with Sea Rays thought about the news.
I don't think ADD's delivery was civil, and it does appear he joined to throw a monkey wrench in to the gears of the forum.
With that said, some of his statements and facts have merit and...
JC3- we ordered a Helmsman 43 Pilothouse. It is a boat I have had on my radar for awhile, but figured it would be later rather than sooner.
Mark, completely agree. Positives and negatives with any decision, and just happy to be on the water.
We pulled the plug and decided to go with a new build trawler, single engine Cummins, 6.7. A trawler was our eventual long term plan, so we just moved it up. Definitely our last boat as we get closer to retirement.
Thanks for the feedback. Had some good conversations on here about Sea Rays...
On another forum, there is a person who appears to have damage to his house from Harvey, and boat damage in FL from Irma. It apppears he is still assessing the situation, but the poor guy has been through the ringer.
I have also thought about this many times, mainly due to the financial differences. Boat slips are hard to get, and $ in SoCal. Many of The service techs are not very good and charge 1.5x what similar terrain based companies get.
With that said, it is also very difficult to get good RV...
On our gas engine dancer with a camper top, we had the same problem.
How about with diesels and and a camper top? Since diesels put out 10% the CEO of a gas engine, has anyone experienced issues? (Assuming front vent open, at at least the aft curtain closed, but aft side panels closed).
Has anyone removed the starboard side couch in the salon? I believe it is bolted down? Were you able to put in a different one, and bolt it back in without too much trouble?
Also, I understand the are zero back recliners, so they don't need much room. I was hoping to put one in if it will fit.
Frank, thanks for the input. You have the past experience and expertise with diesels, so I appreciate the insight. I have read a lot of your posts, and know you have provided great advise to a lot of CSR members over the years. I will adjust my expectations.
Stee,
You have some valid points but that is how I want to approach it. A boat with full PM's may have ended up on a sand bar or been through some other event they managed to cover up. Lots of unknowns when buying a 10 year old boat.
I would counter and say that an owner that is doing full...
Thanks JC. I am having trouble using the search function for members, but I will give it a go again. How has the boating season been treating you in the South?
Ken, thanks for the lead, but we are targeting the 470 and 44 Bridge boats for now. Our past two boats have been EC's, so we want to give the Bridge a shot. In the future we may modify that plan and start looking at the DA's. If no good leads show up in the next two months (an owner who can...
I am not an engine expert by any means, but I am reluctant to pay less for the boat to account for the lack of PM's on the mains.
Aftercoolers - if these are are in very bad shape, is it not possible for the engine to induce salt water through the mixing elbow? Could a small amount be getting...
Copy that GFC, and good to hear it worked out well for you. The lack of salt exposure is big, and something I am seriously considering if I cant find a local So-Cal boat. The removal of the arch, and its proper re-assembly back here in So-Cal has me a bit concerned though. Did you do a string on...
