    Relationship advice needed

I’m enamored by solenoids. My favorite is the slave starter solenoid. I purchased one recently. Here’s the problem. My wife refuses to allow me to explain to her its elegant operation. She compared it to me having to listen to her explain a particularly effective cleaning product. Although I...

Engine hatch needs help to open

Thank you for posting. I've asked my marina to source a replacement and they haven't been able to find one. The 380 Part Manual says the part # is 1100213 ACTUATOR, ELEC HATCH LIFT 12"12V CE. The description leads me to believe it's the model is 12". The Zoro description say 18 In. Any insight...

    Leave the engine hatch open

Hatch actuator seems to be dying a slow death and it seems like a hard replacement part to find. I closed the seacocks before leaving for a few days and thought what could be the harm of leaving it open. I thought about someone walking into the cockpit and falling in and decided to close when I...

    Leave the engine hatch open

Hello all: I haven't seen this question here so thought I was post. Is there any reason you would not want to leave your engine hatch in the open position for several days or weeks at time? Assuming you have a canvas enclosure for your cockpit. Thanks, Peter

Kohler 7.3 ECD Intermittent Shutdown; UU UF Error Code

Yes. Apologies for not reporting back sooner. I finally hired a mechanic who diagnosed a faulty high pressure fuel pump. The pump would lose pressure after the engine heated up. The way to diagnose (which I did not do) is to place a pressure gauge on the schrader valve and determine if the...

Engine temperature creeping up when at cruising speed

Hello all, I've noticed the last few weeks my port engine temp has been creeping up when at 3400 RPMs. Normally it's steady around 160 degrees. 2 weeks ago it was 165 and this past weekend it got to 168. When I go back to idle speed it drops back to 160. Impellers were changed last year...

    Understanding bilge pump wiring

My forward engine room bilge pump switch was lit up while in the off position indicating (I believe) that the float switch was engaged. I don't believe the pump was running and pulled out the rocker switch to test the wiring, 1. The rocker switch itself was somewhat warm. Is being lit for a...

    Hatch Actuator Maintenance

Using some oil seems to have improved opening the hatch. When closing, I noticed the shaft shift slightly forward and the motor struggling a bit because of the lateral tension on the shaft. I discovered the nut on the base wasn’t tight so I tightened several turns. That appears to have solved...

    Hatch Actuator Maintenance

Happy spring y'all. I opened up the boat this past weekend and everything is running smoothly. However, I noticed my hatch actuator ran more slowly and was noisier that usual. I don't suspect weak batteries because they are relatively new and fully charged. This occurred when opening and...

    Still having generator problems

I spent a lot of time trying to troubleshoot what sounds to be a similar problem on my 7.3 ECD. It would run for a while and then shut down with an ambiguous error code. There is much information on various forums and plenty of advice. The time I spent troubleshooting was a good learning...

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

It provides excellent, detailed information on fault conditions and codes. Sticky codes! Go figure. FAULT CONDITIONS Most faults can be detected with the engine running, or with the key on and engine off. However, some faults require the presence of engine RPM, and cannot be detected with the...

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

I found the Mercruiser #36 ECM manual in a PDF format for free at the following link: https://us.v-cdn.net/5020499/uploads/FileUpload/bf/e2244ecdfa5f5a6365c853508f8d06.pdf The manual provides excellent insight into the workings of sensors and guardian mode logic. Fun reading. Plenty of sites...

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

I think I understand. An open circuit would be 5 volts.

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

So I found a PCM manual I can only read it online. It says the CKT HI code indicates it's seeing 5V from the sensor. I would have thought it would have seen 0V if the connector was corroded.

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

Thank you for the help gentlemen. I do have one more question. Do I need to be concerned about "clearing codes"? Does a code need to be cleared by a scan tool to take the engine out guardian mode? I was able to cruise at 3400 RPM yesterday. And there are no active alarms in Smart Craft. Thank...

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

I found a manual excerpt that indicted the 43.4 PSI is the "default" reading which I took to mean that it will read that when getting no voltage reading. So I cleaned the contacts on the cable which appear to be oxidized and the problem cleared.

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

I’ve reseated the connector. I’m still getting the same reading. 43.4 with the engine off. I disconnected the connector. Still the same reading. Does the connector go back to individual interface on a controller.? If anyone has a wiring diagram please share.

Raw water water pressure sensor issue on Mercruiser 8.1

Thanks Rob. I was wondering if he left it disconnected. Or connected incorrectly. I can't find anything that tells what that reading would be. I believe the range is 0-100. So maybe no voltage is read in the middle. And 43.4 is above the threshold for too high. I obtained this diagram for my...
