Are there any visible characterstics or markings on an SEI lower unit that one could distinguish between it and an original OEM from Mercruiser? Trying to determine if a seasoned Mercruiser mechanic should be able to tell the difference simply by looking at it.

Yep... I second what 250slx was saying. Likewise, I have the 350 with the BIII-23p props. By no means is it underpowered. Pull's a 200# slalom ski'er up and out of the water quick. Only complaint is the number of rpm's the engine is turning when cruising at that comfortable 30mph.... 4000+...

Would anyone know what size wingnut is used on marine batteries? Is it a standard size? I have the stock (what ever it was delivered with) battery in my 2006 sea ray.

MarineMax offered a fix to the tune of about $550. They could replace the exisitng grab bar with a bar with ends that "curved in" to the fiberglass. In that way, the rope wouldn't get caught. I suppose the same thing could be done on the 270.

Have the same problem with those SS grab bars on my 250. Here is what I used to fix the problem. Complained about it to Sea Ray. They fixed the problem on the 2007 250. Don't know why they didn't do the same on the 2007...
