Some 110v power outlets dead...but not all

2005 420 DA. My 110v outlets in the cabin on the port side are dead. Port side system switch is on and I have good power from shore. The GFI in the cockpit is hot, and the cockpit fridge has power, but the cabin outlets near the panel (over the settee) and in the master stateroom are dead. I...

Lost fresh water pressure, what to check?

We lost fresh water pressure about half way through the day yesterday. The tank has plenty of water and the pump is on at the DC panel. What should I check first? Is there some sort of demand switch that is separate from the pump? And where is the pump located? Thanks!

    Anchor Light Replacement

My anchor light pole snapped in a gale a few nights ago (2005 42 Sundancer). The original pole was about 36 inches long, and I would like to replace just the pole, since the base is fine. Any ideas on where to find a replacement? Thanks!

    Clarion stereo controls locked

I have the original Clarion stereo in my 05 450. It has the head unit in the cabin and two remote control centers, one at the helm and one at the stern. I have never had any problems with it until today. Now, the only button that is functional on the head unit is power. Pressing any of the...

AC / DC converter to power freezer

Hi all, the AC side of my salon freezer in my 2005 DA420 has died. The freezer works fine on DC, but not on AC. The AC side of this freezer plugs into a standard 120V outlet underneath the cabinets. I want to add an AC to DC converter into the AC line so that the fridge will still get DC...

Getting my heading to display straight up on MFD

I have an 05 420DA with original Raymarine electronics. I have played with various display settings, course up, heading up, etc, but can't seem to get my heading to consistently display straight up on the MFD. I have noticed that my MFD and my compass show the same number, but my autopilot is...

    Strange tach behavior

Hi all, 2005 420 DA, fully mechanical 6CTA engines, original gauges and VHF. I just noticed that, at idle, if I key the VHF, the starboard tach rises to about 1000 RPM (from about 550 RPM idle). Once I am over 1000 RPM, keying the VHF causes no change, but at any speed less than 1000 RPM...

    Frayed VHF cord...solutions?

Attached are two photos of the OEM VHF handset on my 2005 42 Sundancer. As you can see, the cord is frayed badly. I cannot lay my hands on the manuals and I don't see a model number on the handset anywhere. Is the cord replaceable or do I have to replace the whole handset? If full...

    Slow engine room hatch

I have a 2005 420 and the engine room hatch is running slow. The replacement motors run about $300 per side, so I would like to eliminate any other potential causes before I spring for new motors. Does anyone know how much current they should draw? I have greased them at the grease fittings...

Removing UW light from thru hull...corroded.

My boat has 5 brass thru hulls with lenses on the outside and underwater light cartridges accessible from the engine room. I am replacing the lights and 3 of them are stuck. The two cartridges that came out just slid right out no problem, but the 3 stuck ones seem to be in there pretty tight...

    Power to co detectors

I just replaced all 3 co detectors on my 42 dancer but only one, the salon, appears to be working. The stateroom detectors are unresponsive when I hold down the test button. Do the have individual breakers and where would I find them? Thanks.

Setting up dock lines in a wet slip.

I have a 42 foot Sundancer with a 14 foot beam in a wet slip. The slip is about 20 feet wide, so I have lots of room on the sides. However, the last piling is about 25 feet out from the rear of the slip, which puts it just astern of my midships cleats. Currently I have my bow lines affixed at...

    Head system vacuum loss

With my head on and not being used, I hear the vacuum pump kick on every 5 minutes or so. I assume that I have a slow leak somewhere. Is this just normal or is it something that I need to repair? And if I need to repair, how do find a vacuum leak? Pressure leaks are easy, just use soapy water in...

    CO detector false alarm

So I am sitting at anchor. Engines and genny off, cabin open. Light breeze. The midships cabin co detector goes off. Got to be a false alarm. Nothing around to generate co. I disconnect it, reconnect, about and hour later it goes off again. I assume that it is giving me false alarms. It looks...

    Air conditioning pump breaker location

I have lost power to my air conditioning pump on my 2005 42 foot Sundancer. I don't find a breaker under the helm or on the main distribution panel, is there a breaker for that pump located somewhere else on the boat? Thanks!

    Chartering in the Virgin Islands

We have a group of 6 that would like to charter a boat...probably a cat...for a week of cruising the Virgins. Any advice on crewed vs bareboat, good boats and/or charter agencies? A sailing cat would be fine if we go crewed, but if we bareboat, it will need to be a powerboat. Sailing is too...

    Intermittent depth reading, transducer problem?

I just replaced my old Sea Ray Navigator with a Raymarine E120 Hybrid touch. The electrician left the old SR "black box" in place so that the Raymarine could read depth information from the old SR transducer. However, we are only getting intermittent signal. Sometime we get depth information...

Sea ray transducer feed depth to raymarine?

I am replacing a 2005 sea ray navigator with a Raymarine e120 hybrid touch chart plotter. Will the original sea ray transducer give depth data to the new raymarine? Thanks all

Stained Gel Coat, how to clean?

My boat has a hydraulic swim platform. This past weekend, we had the platform lowered into the water most of the day. The water was darker than normal, stained with tannins flowing down the rivers to the Gulf. The tannins stained the gel coat on the platform "tooth rot yellow". It doesn't...
