Brand new 8.2L H.O. Not performing as expected

I’ve got a new 8.2 HO, as well as a new Bravo III XR drive. Just hit 18hrs of break in time. Boat is a 2006 260 Sundancer. Previously had a 8.1 Mag, Bravo III. Old engine lost two cylinders due to clogged injectors. The cool fuel unit had been replaced by previous owner but never...

    Thoughts on Jasper marine engines?

I’m getting a replacement long block. 496 mag 375hp. Either a new long block from Mercury or one from Jasper. It’s for a 2006 Sundancer 260. Obviously a lot less money for the remanufactured Jasper, which is very attractive. Still kind of unsure as to which way to go. Id be interested to hear...

Cool fuel module ever leak water in to the gas?

2006 260 DA, 496 mag bravo III. Serious internal engine problems. Water in oil. Low compression in two cylinders 38/75..it’s bad. Just checked the gas in the cool fuel module and both sides have water in the gas. The ‘out’ side also has a substantial amount of crap..sediment..in it...

Here’s a brain teaser..changed my CPS, then this..

Changed out the crank sensor. Went to start the engine hoping for the best. Cranked over almost caught, then on second attempt just a loud CLACK sound. Tested both batteries and both healthy. More on them in a minute. Visual inspection of starter and it was readily apparent, something very...

Automotive Crank Position Sensor in 496 mag?

I’m methodically trying to figure out why my engine has started running rough and down on power. 496 mag/375hp, 625hrs. I’ve replaced the plugs, wires, and now coils. After the coils I think it got a little better but still not 100% and still had recent rough start..I just swapped out the CPS...

    Difficulty pumping out

Lately two out of three Pumpout stations are not able to pump out my tank. The one that can, is still surging..not a steady strong flow. The most recent attempt, I was able to be in the bilge while a dock hand was pumping it out and I could hear a slight hissing sound. I wonder if one of the...

3 foot seas..8 seconds apart ..decisions, decisions..

In Beaufort Nc, was planning on heading to Ocracoke tomorrow. Supposed to be 3 foot and 8 sec spread. Seems borderline..lol. I enjoy cruising rollers4+ with over 10 sec but I’m not sure how it’ll be tomorrow.. just throwing it out there. If it’s a no go, I’ll turn tail and head back up to the...

    180 deg operating temp?

Just took the boat for the first ride yesterday and the temp was about 170 while in the no wake zone. However, on plane she held at 180..which is the highest I’ve seen. I’m also in much warmer water for the first time. I’m in the inner banks of NC and the water temps are in the 80’s. Maybe close...

‘Little blue pill’ for docking? Thoughts on a bow thruster

So, I’ve got my 260 Sundancer. Been a few seasons with the model. One year with a twin and spoiled with Axius..I’m not the best or the worst at the docks but honestly, with a single screw, when the wind catches my bow, it’s tough. So I’m thinking of getting a through hull. Any suggestions? It’s...

    Tongue weight estimates?

I’ve got a 2006 260DA, 496, generator, 40 gallons of gas, maybe 10 of water..sitting on a Triple axle. I was just reading another post and someone mentioned that setup would have a light tongue weight (I’m guessing because of the triple axels). The post was from 2016 so, I figured best to ask...

    Started the trip..

I left Boston on Monday. Cape Cod bay was pretty rough on the way to the canal. I forgot how beat up and worn out it makes you. Fueled up in Sandwich. The canal was smooth, as was Buzzards Bay surprisingly. Made it to a small marina in Westport by late afternoon. Gassed, and docked for the...

Late season better than no season..possible trip in new boat

Im back in a 2006 Sundancer 260. Was lucky enough to find one with the 496 Mag, and a genset. Threw some Hill Marine 4 blade SS props on her and she performs great. I couldn’t be happier with it. Had an Axiom 9, I added Quantum Radar. Based out of Boston and looking at a weeklong cruise of...

Bilge pump not automatically turning on...

I was just hosing down the bilge and noticed the pump did not turn on, like it usually does automatically. It works from the helm switch. I know there’s a mercury switch inside it..could I have inadvertently switched it off when I was scrubbing around it?

Electric cook top not very hot..

trying to cook up some eggs and at this rate, it’ll take 15 min using the electric cook top. This is the combo electric and alcohol stove in an 2006 260. I’m hooked up to shore power, and the setting is on 10. Kind of surprising if this is normal..would take all day to get water to boil. Any...

Prop Question on 2006 260 Sundancer

Can anybody share what size props they have on their 260 Sundancer? I’m looking at one with a 496, and it’s got 28 pitch props. I can’t recall the pitch on my previous 2006 260, which had a 350 mag in it. But, a 28 pitch sounds kind of on the high end. I’m no expert though. RPM @ 5000 tops out...

Getting to be decision time, again. Which boat to go with.

first boat was a 2006 Sundancer 260. Loved it, but was underpowered and a little cramped. Second boat, 2009 330 496/BRAVO III’s..too much for me on my own..sold it. Current choices are 1. 2006 260, white hull, 496 mag w/490 hrs. And generator, etc.. Dealer to do risers, manifolds plugs wires...

opinions on 4 blade props for BRAVO III?

Thinking about trying them out on a 496 mag bravo III set up. Are there any obvious disadvantages?

    Top speed variables..

Boat: 2006 Sundancer 260 with 496/Bravo III Conditions: 12mph winds, 1-2ft seas, full camper top on boat. Result: 40 mph @ 5000 rpm. I was a little surprised to see that low of a number but it was a bit snotty and the camper enclosure was up. I’m thinking, since the boat/engine got all it’s...

Location of shore water pressure regulator?

So, our pressure is way down. It's fine when using the tank/pump, but goes down to a trickle when on shore water. I've cleaned the filter and there are no kinks in the hose. I just don't know where the regulator is to try and replace it. 2009 330 Sundancer Thanks:)

Just in time for the weekend. Port engine no start. No neutral light.

the light won't go on for neutral on port engine my ERC display...port will crank but no start. Just called my shop. They told me about the neutral safety switch. I located it and manually depressed it. I also disconnected, cleaned and re connected the attached harnesses. No luck. I've jiggled...
