You need the thermostat, dont remove it. Find out why its hot. have you ever serviced the raw water pump? Also the risers get hot all of mine do/ did and one side is always a little hotter for some reason? Go over your cooling system from the outdrive to the wye pipe look for worn or missing...

1989 268 Sundancer Canvas Top "zip in" Windows

Your local canvas top guy will just make new ones or if you have a suitable sewing machine you can do it yourself with relative ease. I redid my top on my 268 wasn'to big of a job.

    Starting newly rebuilt motor

What scoflaw said, also if its a older tappet cam shaft make sure you use the proper oil ie: racing oil and follow cam shaft manufactures instructions on break in or else it will possibly round off a lobe or 2 in short order. If its a newer roller style cam then fire away and go boating!:D

1989 Sea Ray 268 Running wires from Dash to Hull

Yeah same here all my wires go down from dash to port side, very visible through access door in the head. I would pull a small nylon rope at same time to make future installs easier

87 268 with a 454 Merc question for those with one!

Thanks for the replys, well mine is above the Y pipe, this I know cause when I changed the extensions the new rubber hoses did not seal well and when I splashed it it sounded like Niagra Falls in there. Glad the trailer was close. Could it be the Bravo is too heavy then?

87 268 with a 454 Merc question for those with one!

Hi Guys I changed the motor and drive on my boat, see previous posts. Just a refresher it had a 350 with a Alpha drive. Those that have similar set ups know that its under powered, so I installed a 454 and Bravo 1 drive. These boats were offered with these sets so no biggy right? I also knew I...

Is it worth it? 27ft 1987 Sea Ray Sundancer

Spend a day or two just cleaning it up then ask the question again, There's definitely lots of work there but starting cost of FREE is good. Looks like its been missing TLC for some time but "if" the hull is sound it might be worth the effort and the reward of bringing her back to life.

    SeaDek Yes or No

If thats the paint on stuff? I tried it on a older boat and found it really held the dirt so go with a darker color.

Looking for advice on finding dash material for my 268

Yeah I had a vinyl wrap made to cover it with the switch id's added, was a bit of a chore getting it right. I also recovered the dash covers as the originals were starting to show their age and didnt go well with the new gauges.

268 with a 260hp merc. Underpowered? Fuel sipper?

I bought a 87 268 for $3K with a blown 350 engine. It was the second time the engine blew up, I loved the looks and size of the boat and was replacing my 85 ThunderCraft 25' with a 350 combo in it. The thundercraft ran like a scared rabbit so I foolishly expected the 268 to run about the same. I...
