Found a bent intake push rod

Gunn, Not the valve dropping that causes the problem, it is rust buildup on the valve that will prevent it from moving freely; gets a little slow/hung up, and gets whacked.

Found a bent intake push rod

Depending on the last time someone was in there I would also be worried that the valves hung and the piston whacked them.- I'd scope the cylinder or look in the manifold for signs of water/rust on the valves. I had a similar issue at one point but my early evidence was bent pushrods (yes sloppy...

    Repower time for the 370

Gen V's were not roller cams. You are correct that when GM went to rollers in the Gen VI ingestion became an issue for many of the manufacturers. Couple of interesting links: http://my.boatus.com/consumer/EngineBlocks.asp this one from an old post links directly to the Mercruiser...

    Repower time for the 370

Couple words of advice as I went through this as well but since I had new carbs I purchased new long blocks, FWC, etc. The newer engines have roller cams, and if you remain with the current log-style exhaust of the previous 7.4s you run the risk of sucking water up due to the static line being...

Hey folks, It is with a heavy heart that I announce that I have sold my 370. Priority has gone from spending family time at the shore, to teenagers with their own cars, jobs, college, and (not ready for this) saving for weddings. While I was not a heavy poster to this site, I was a heavy...

    Accessories

Not real familiar with your boat, so a couple of questions: 1. How many batteries, and what function do they perform (i.e. start, house, combo, etc.). 2. Should you accessories run without the engine switch "on"? 3. Are all battery switches, rocker switches and fuses turned on? Seems like...
