Is anybody noticing that insurance companies are giving up on writing policies for boats over 50' or more than 20 years old ?

    Purasans on 500 Sundancer

I really don't understand the 6ft distance thing. My vacu flush has no problem pushing "stuff" almost 45ft and then uphill about 3ft into the tank. Gona give it a try with the Purasans unit in the engine room and see how it goes. Sure will be nice to get rid of the massive holding tank and...

    500/520 DB official thread

I did use these a few years back on another Sea Ray. They work really well. Easy to install. And probably postponed the inevitable canvas replacement for a couple of seasons. Just make sure to get the correct size (tooth count). I think they offer different widths as well so measure carefully.

New Boat buyer and I have so many questions!

Range of questions and im sure you will get a range of answers. So...Q-1..You need to evaluate how much time you will realistically be able to spend on board, and exactly how your going to spend that time. (ie day trip, over night, hanging out dock side) Those questions may answer some of your...

    Dry battery

Will it hold a charge depends on a lot of factors besides water level. Why is the water level low is the place to start, is the level low due to boil over or neglect ? Add distilled water just slightly over the top of the plates. Put battery on charge and watch it to see if the water/acid is...

    Raw water intake hoses

Try some brake clean and good ole elbow grease, maybe a pick and scraper as well to remove the old hoses. No telling what a PO may have put on there to help slide hose on or as a seal. As far as installing new hoses I always use Vasoline.

    iPad as MFD?

I use an I pad as a backup to Raymarine E-120s. I have it mounted in a shaded area to keep it from over heating. I always run the MFDs however it only takes a few seconds to check for any updates and have them installed on the I pad versus pulling the card out of the MFD............ I also use...

LED Light Bar for Radar Arch

Defiantly a BIG NO on light bar on a boat. All that extra light just reflects off the water making it impossible to see and they blind any other boat that might be on the water. Absolutely unsafe for all concerned. The waterway looks like an interstate now. Spend the money on a navigation unit.

Where to source new Dometic ac unit?

MarineAire out of Miami for sure. I have purchased 4 units from them (for 3 different boats) over the past several years. Great people to deal with. Quick shipping.

    Vesselview battery voltage

What is the actual voltage number your reading as "1v low" ? Is the reading with charging system active, engines running, no load, etc ? Where are you comparing voltage values from ? As far as temp readings, most engines normal operating range is upwards of 180 degrees, some over 200 degrees...

    Do you close your seacock?

A/C and genset stay open. We live aboard. Mains closed unless engines are running. Made up this placard that physically prevents engine start switches from being activated. Keys are in engine room hanging on the strainers. Just to many variables to leave to chance.

    Dual Fresh Water Pump Advise

Dual pump setup here as well. I added a switch to be able to select one pump or the other. One pump was the original Shur Flo and the other had been upgraded to a Marco Electronic pump. Problem was Marco pump could supply the needed pressure and flow, the Shur Flo simply kicked on then...
