My block has corroded and I am checking on getting a new small block, or getting a certified engine to replace, depending on cost . I am leaning towards a small block, since I have almost everything new from try to solve a overheating problem, which some of you have helped me with. My question...
That makes allot of sense. Who did you buy from? Don't know how to go about checking on Mercury engines. My engine now is ENGINE # OM323553 # 4M42037PS
Mercruiser---5.0 Bravo MPI 305 CID
My mechanic has the boat out of the water. There is a blockage most likely around the freeze...
Dennis, I did mean short block. The engines I saw were on Ebay from : ATP engines, Centerstate engines, Engines Direct and TopCat engines. These are the 4 that I saw on Ebay. Do you have a recommendation? Prices were $2195 to $2495.
AFD, I was actually looking at the Reman small block $2600 delivered and my mechanic was going to convert parts over to it from the old engine and my total cost was going to be around $5000. I thought that was a fair price,if the Reman had a good quality record?? Looks like the Mercury certified...
Re: If I need a new block due to blockage and maybe rust I was looking at this block
Dennis, So the Reman I believe for a 2 barrel carb has 290HP, SO REALISTICLY it really is 260HP at the prop?? Thanks
Re: If I need a new block due to blockage and maybe rust I was looking at this block
I have a fresh water cooling system on my present engine, so your saying I will have to buy another with the new engine? Sorry if that is a stupid question, I am a novice at this .
replace existing one. They told me this would fit. It has more horsepower. Has anyone tried this one??
Reman 5.7L/350, 330HP Vortec Marine Base Engine. Replaces Mercruiser years 96-up

Re: 2002 Sea Ray Sundancer needs a Chevy small block. Maybe not now!!! Pulled engine
The engine did not have anti-freeze. It is a fresh water cooled engine. I will have the mechanic look for rust. I agree rather spend the money for a new engine then have rust in the block.
Re: 2002 Sea Ray Sundancer needs a Chevy small block. Maybe not now!!! Pulled engine
Actually the engine only has 220 hrs on it. We already replaced the risers and manifolds and about everything else. The boat ran well at 2800 RPM just when we got it up to about 3000 it started heating up. The...
Re: 2002 Sea Ray Sundancer needs a Chevy small block. Maybe not now!!! Pulled engine
The blockage was shells with sludge like material. Mechanic said looked like boat got into a sand Barge with cut up shells.
then freeze plugs and found the blockage we have been looking for!!! Mechanic now will try to clean out the blockage and save me from having to buy a new engine. Has anyone had this problem before, and any ideas best way to clean out ???
Re: Taking 260 sundancer out of the water and would like to blow out the freeze plug
Dennis, I am not a mechanic but try to get advice to him if it helps. Had a heating problem when boat reached over 2800 rpm. It ran great below that. Have replaced about everything. I was just about ready to...
Re: Taking 260 sundancer out of the water and would like to blow out the freeze plug
have a blockage that is making the engine heat up. My mechanic wants to open the freeze plugs and see if he can see any blockage. So he mentioned to me and I thought I would ask the forum.
Re: Called Michigan Motors and they said before spending allot of money, First check
Thanks for all the information. We will pull boat back out of the water tomorrow and get to work. Also, has anyone removed the freeze plugs to see if there is blockage?? Sine we will be removing the manifolds...
Flappers under the Y-plate??? They said that may be causing your engine to heat. I am by no means a expert but if the flappers are worn down would that cause the engine to heat up after it reaches 2800 rpm?? As I have said before we did everything to the engine that was suggested here ,to fix...
As I reported late summer I had trouble with the temp heating up when speed passed 2800 rpm. Thanks for all the advise, which I followed almost everything. After replacing almost everything the heating problem still existed. Runs good under 2800 RPM but heats up above. Decided to replace the...
