Twin 3116 engines with 1300 hours each. I've never had any issues from them since I've owned them for several years and 300 hours.
Today I was running about 1100 rpms on both engines (for about an hour) and suddenly the port engine just died. Won't even attempt a start, but turns over easily...
I'm considering upgrading my autopilot. I have the Raymarine 6001 that is popular in late 90's boats. I'm having an issue with either the computer or the rudder sensor, but I'm not sure how much time and money I want to put into this older system. We'll see.
So if I decide to do a upgrade, what...
I have a 1998 400EC. It started by noticing the carpet at the foot of the bed in the master stateroom was damp. I traced the wet carpet slightly up the starboard side in the storage compartments. I took a guess that the port lights on the starboard side were leaking and I rebedded them. They...
I hear other 400 owners on here talk about their ice maker in the cockpit. I'm confused because while my ice maker location seems to have a factory installed device - it's just a freezer really. It has a clear ice "bucket" in it, but all it can do is keep stuff frozen. It doesn't have any water...
I have always felt like the gold Sea Ray emblems on my 400EX have given the boat a dated look. Plus there's just nothing else much that's gold on the outside of the boat (the interior is a different story). I kept putting off this update because I wasn't sure if I'd be any happier with the...
Ever since buying my newest Sea Ray I've been wondering about the logic of the battery setup. I have 3 batteries on the starboard side that seem to setup from the factory. One is a dedicated cranking battery for the port motor, the other two start the starboard motor and are the house batteries...
Generator stopped pumping any water at all. I bought a new impeller and went about changing it for the first time. Well, I got my son to do it because I'm not sure I could fit back there. It's practically a blind job with extremely limited access.
Everything seemed to go well except that we...
Hit a submerged log this weekend and have a dinged prop(s). I've never messed with the props on my boat to this point and I'm wondering if they are removed like smaller inboards. Cotter pin, nut, prop puller, key. Anything special I should know?
1998 400 Express - straight inboards
A question about changing the port engine impeller. Has anyone done this without opening the floor all the way on an EC? I'm wondering if it's possible to crawl to the outboard side of the port engine and be in a position effective enough to accomplish this task.
I'm in the process of installing some woven vinyl in the cockpit. I've been considering some Sea Dek type material on the swim platform, but the woven vinyl installer was obviously pushing his product. Anyone done this? It's completely waterproof, cheaper, but I'd have to install snaps. Thoughts?
My marina has a very sensitive ground fault detection system. Ever since I got my 400EC last fall I've been fighting ground fault trips (it shuts down the whole dock).
At first it was the fridge, and after rebuilding the main circuit board it seems fixed. But I'm getting trips without any...
I haven't spent a lot of time looking, but in a couple of brief attempts, I have not located a drain for the integrated fender locker on my 400. Is there one? Has anyone installed one? Seems like there should be several to keep water out and not sitting in the bottom.
I have all the original electronics from 1998 on my boat. Raymarine SeaTalk1 stuff. No charplotter, but everything works other than the radar.
I'd like to get the Garmin 942xs bundle with the GMR18 HD radar. I'd like to use my current instruments and autopilot. So here's what I think I need to...
We have a love/hate relationship with our cockpit table. It's useful, but always in the way. I haven't figured out a place to store it when not in use. Any suggestions for how to manage this type of table...
On my new to me 1998 400EC, I'm going through all of the systems that haven't been used in a while, including fresh water. I've run fresh water through the system and have added some bleach. The smell has definitely gotten better.
My question is about the water being very foamy. Anyone see...
The head system in my 1998 400EC needs some explaining. It's the vacuum flush variety and I'm guessing that no upgrades beyond factory have been put into place. I haven't been able to crawl back to the tank and follow lines, but I've been craning my neck trying to see how everything is plumbed...
My previous boat was a 300 Weekender with no electronics of any kind. Setting it up was relatively easy. I installed a NMEA2000 backbone and made sure my instruments (depth, speed, water temp, fuel flow meters) were all NMEA2000. I then installed a Vesper XB8000 wireless, GPS, AIS...
I just had my boat transported over ground and the radar had to be removed. It's a Raytheon 41xx open array. After re-installing the array the unit had a "bearing pulse error." Basically the array wouldn't rotate. I was in the midst of testing connections and the circuit board and the whole unit...
I have a 1998 400 Express with the factory Norcold fridge. I don't have the exact model number yet. I know several people will give me an answer of "get a new fridge! Vitrifrigo and others. I might be headed there, but I want to identify my exact problem before I just go buy a new fridge.
The...
I'll be making my first gulf stream crossing to West End (and beyond) this coming Saturday. Leaving from West Palm. So far the forecast looks good, and we're all excited. If you see me out there, be sure to say hello.
