Starboard engine cut off / Now no more ignition switch beep

Well the beep is a good beep. When things are operating correctly, I press the ignition switch halfway, and I get three long beeps then it's quiet. At that time the fuel pump primes itself. Then I press the switch the rest of the way and the engine cranks and starts. Now that one engine is...

Starboard engine cut off / Now no more ignition switch beep

Hi - Last night was headed out to do some boat camping. While on plane the starboard engine just cut off. I could never get it to start or even fire after that. Starter and battery seem fine. I cranked it a lot. We came home on the port engine at 4 kn from 10 miles away. Took a while. I...

Screw fell in bravo III vent hole. What hole is this?

Here's a photo with the prop removed. Unfortunately there is still no access to the screw. If you shine a light into those slots you can't see the screw because there is metal ducting (for lack of a better word) that blocks access into the front of the lower unit. If this is just an exhaust...

Screw fell in bravo III vent hole. What hole is this?

Hi - I had to adjust my power trim limit switch and after taking the 4 screws off I set them on the flat part of the lower unit. Later I trimmed the unit up and all but one screw fell onto the ground. The missing screw probably went in this hole in the lower unit. :smt013 Can anybody tell me...

    Better Boat Canvas and Windows

FYI the ez extend zippers worked for the front three panels but didn't work so well for the two side curtains. The side curtains wouldn't connect to the zipper on the arch because the ez extend zippers moved them down somewhat. I'll muck with it a little more and see if I can come up with a...

Mystery of the Brown Sludge and White Slime

In rereading this thread you've made a number of suggestions including the above. I don't know how to check any of these at this point. I'll see what youtube has to say ...

Mystery of the Brown Sludge and White Slime

Hey I wanted to post a follow up with what I learned. I pulled the boat out 2 1/2 weeks ago and in between a vacation and other work was able to spend some time on it. I did drain and change the oil in both outdrives. The oil was very black but other than that looked fine -- no signs of water...

Mystery of the Brown Sludge and White Slime

A lot of advice here, thanks everybody. I don't know how to check half these things. This is my first boat and we got it in May. Today the boat will be pulled out of the water and I'll start looking into possible causes. There is no white scum in the oil filler caps so maybe that means there...

    Better Boat Canvas and Windows

I'll post a follow up here to share what I learned. I read the posts below, some other threads, and talked to two canvas experts, Tammy from http://www.canvas-boat-cover-and-repair-advisor.com/ and a nice guy from Lakeside Marine Canvas, both in Buford, GA. I learned a lot. Great Lakes Boat...

    Better Boat Canvas and Windows

Right now these zipper extenders look very interesting. Wouldn't solve the visibility problem but it would be an inexpensive fix for the tightness problem: http://www.canvas-boat-cover-and-repair-advisor.com/ez-xtend-boat-zippers.html

My curtains are basically ALL eisenglass. I read the thread about using fabric softener on the fabric and was all set to try that. I went down to the boat to get the curtains then saw that they are all eisenglass, very little fabric along the edge. What I did try a few months ago was a heat gun...

Mystery of the Brown Sludge and White Slime

Yes the oil is overfilled, but it is clear. I would have thought if it was overflowing somewhere the level would have gone down.

Mystery of the Brown Sludge and White Slime

Both power steering tanks appeared full. I was wondering why there are two though.

Mystery of the Brown Sludge and White Slime

No. The boat has been in the water the whole time. I'll be pulling it out in the next week and I'll drain the oil out of the bilge then look at the power trim lines on the outside of the transom to see if there are any signs of looseness or wear. Once I figure this out I will post a follow up.

    Better Boat Canvas and Windows

Hi - I'm a new owner of a 2001 Sea Ray 290 Sundancer. I like the boat but am a little dismayed at how many things break and aren't designed well. For instance the boat has a set of 2008 Great Lakes Boat Top side and visor curtains in it. However they don't fit any more because the vinyl...

That's just the device I would need! Good find.

Mystery of the Brown Sludge and White Slime

Hi - Took the boat out to dinner yesterday, a half hour up the Tennessee River and a half hour back. We were running in the high end of our speed range. On the way back I noticed the bilge had a considerable amount, maybe a quart, of light brown oil with chunks of white slime in it. I guess...

How to tell if my Mercruiser supports NMEA 0183 or 2000 or nothing

Is that photo the setup you have on your 2008 mercruisers on the 2001 380 DA?

How to tell if my Mercruiser supports NMEA 0183 or 2000 or nothing

Holy crap your picture shows a lot of gadgetry. I'm new to boats (that is synonymous with "fixing boats") but I've spent a lot of time working on Japanese cars and motorcycles and the mercury doesn't seem nearly as well designed. ... but I digress. Maybe it's good my engines don't support...
