Being a later model, you may be hearing a manifold/riser temp sensor alarm. If the riser is clogging, the temp will go up with higher engine speed. Also, check the electrical plug connection to the temp sensors ( one in each riser). If it is loose, it may be sending the alarm due to vibration...
Sheesh ... the two free '80s 270 Sundancers that I have looked at and decided would be too much work and cost .... were at least complete, just fully run-down.

Well, it was as bad as I figured it likely would be (but held hope that there was a minimum chance that it would not be). Total basket case. Ahhh well .... moving on and keeping the feelers out.
Yeah, the fuel alone is a good thought on an unknown engine. And, yes, certainly will disconnect the fuel pump inlet and clamp it.

As the OP posted, I am also considering a mid '80s 270 Sundancer. We have been used to 28-ish foot Express cruisers form the 2000s, that we trailer (8'6"). Sold the last one two seasons ago (get rid of the loan)...
