65 ft. MY sinking near South Bass?

Today’s rumor update is that they ran out of gas in their main tanks and the air bubble occurred while switching to the auxiliary tank. There’s still conflicting reports on whether the windlass didn’t have power or the anchor didn’t bite, but some photos show the anchor chain down so they at...

65 ft. MY sinking near South Bass?

The rumors are swirling up here, but the overall summary is that the Captain switched the fuel valve from port tank to starboard tank and got a bubble of air in the line. He lost both engines and subsequently electric power, couldn’t get them started, and without power couldn’t drop anchor (or...

3 people die... sad but odd story

If you’ve bought or sold a boat on Lake Erie in the last decade you probably crossed paths with Chris. It’s a an absolutely devastating story. He was taking the boat in on trade from Eastlake to Huron and brought his son along. The older gentleman was the owner trading the boat in...

    97 400 Sundancer Waterline

When we sold our ‘97 400DA, a surveyor found moisture in the bulkhead forward of the engines. Buyer wanted core samples, we pulled them, came back dry, so bad reading. If you’re concerned, pull the cores.

    Talk about expensive!

I'll throw out a little counterpoint that a mentor used to convince me to finally start paying other people to do easy jobs for me. Figure out exactly how much money you make per hour in your actual career. And if you can make more money at work than it'll cost to pay someone, then go to work...

West Marine SOLD....Time to Rejoice - Hopefully

West Marine is the morning after pill of the supply chain. You hope to never need them. And with proper planning and foresight, you should be able to avoid them. But every once in a while you find yourself in a pickle, and it’s nice to know they’re available.

Low bridge !!.... and I don’t want to duck

You can make it under. I took our 40’ through there multiple times when the water was 12” higher than they’re calling for this summer. You’ll have plenty of room.

Where are you storing? There are some options in Sandusky with better hours, as well as Catawba Mini-Storage, which offers key fob access.

Boating Skills: What did you learn this year?

I learned that overnighting with toddlers during a worldwide pandemic is virtually impossible. I also learned that boating with toddlers requires so much gear that it almost removes all the fun from it. But I learned the memories created can not be replicated anywhere on land.

    Lake Erie Clarity.

I think the lack of rain has meant less runoff, so less opportunities to stir everything up. After the last round of storms, there was a noticeable change in the clarity in the Sandusky Bay for a few days. Hopefully we can get a nice dry fall and continue the streak!

    Cat 3208 advice

I made the move into a 2001 Sunseeker 44’ Camargue this year. She’s optioned with the 450hp Cat 3208s with roughly 850 freshwater hours. The reason I made the move is because the previous owner was meticulous with maintenance and upkeep and I can literally eat off the bilge floor it’s so clean...

Do you have enough dock lines?

Blue, we rode out that evening on the A dock at Crew’s Nest. They tried to move most of us down there for protection overnight. Around 2am it was absolutely brutal. I deployed every line we carry and put out all 6 fenders and slept for about an hour. Those uprights at CN will test the nerves for...

Sea Ray Sundancer and Bayliner look alike

I think a lot of it has to do with the increasingly widening gap between new boat buyers and used boat buyers. Anecdotally speaking, the only people I know who bought “new” Sea Rays between 30-45ft in the last 5yrs were first-time boaters who had NO CLUE what they were doing. They had the means...

    Kelleys Island

Been there multiple times this year. They are definitely enforcing the rule where you must be seated in order to drink or eat. And they are definitely not letting people stand around in groups. So as long as you’re going with a smaller group, you should be fine. But if you travel in large...
