1989 Weekender 300 w. 454 big blocks; Need to know drive ratio

Hi all. I am repowering my 1989 SR Weekender 300 that has 7.4L MErcruiser straight inboards,330hp I think. I am buying used (rebuilt) drop-in engines, most likely Crusader 454's. However, some I have looked at come as both engine and tranny/drive together. Unfortunately, I can't find the tag on...

Counter rotating engine on 1989 SR Weekender 300

Sorry for any confusion - I've seen "transmission", "tranny" and "drive" all used when referring to inboard transmissions. I use "outdrive" or "Sterndrive" for I/O. Anyways, mine are straight inboards with what I think are Borg Warner Velvet drives. I just can't find any info tag on the drives...

    1988 Weekender 300 - repower with Crusader 454's . Questions

Thanks for the help so far. One engine has a cracked block from improper winterization. The other engine runs OK but is rusty and has seen some brackish water and with raw water cooling is likely on it's last legs. I can get a pair of nice used Crusaders for a good price and have two engines I...

    1988 Weekender 300 - repower with Crusader 454's . Questions

OK, yes, I think there's plenty of room for the FWC accessories. As for the elbow, I tried to upload a photo of the engine but no luck so far so I will try to describe it. It's very typical of Crusaders I've seen where the manifold goes to a riser which reaches the max height then an elbow back...

    1988 Weekender 300 - repower with Crusader 454's . Questions

Yes, both the current Mercs and the Crusaders are gen IV . I'll have to do some measuring to see how far above the water line the crusader risers would sit and also make sure we have a slope to the exhaust muffler. Another question : The Crusaders I am considering a fresh water cooled but my...

Counter rotating engine on 1989 SR Weekender 300

Also, does anyone know the proper drive ration my boat should have come with? It has 454 engines but I can't find the tag on the drives. I'd guess they'd be 1.91:1 ration, but not sure. Anyone have this boat with the big block engines and know the drive ratio?

    1988 Weekender 300 - repower with Crusader 454's . Questions

Yep, the starboard engine is counter rotation. The different pumps shouldn't matter as the crusaders are complete engines so ready to plug and play. I just need to make sure things line up properly.

    1988 Weekender 300 - repower with Crusader 454's . Questions

So I need to replace the engines in my Weekender 300. It has Mercruiser 454's 330hp , straight inboards. I have found a pair of used drop-in Crusader 454's that are totally rebuilt and 100% guaranteed. My questions have to do with what will be required to use the Crusaders where the Mercruisers...

    Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Hi. I have a 1989 Weekender 300 with straight Velvet drives. I can't get to the boat for a while but want to know what the drive ratio likely is. I have twin 454 inboards. Anyone have these and know what drive ratios they came with? Thx.

    Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

OK, thx. Can you let me know what it's marked as? I saw two switches there the other day when on the boat - I don't think either one ran the sump but I want to know where to start my troubleshooting. Thx.

    Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

1989 Weekender 300. Does anyone know if there is a switch to run the shower sump? Mine is under the stairs and I see a float down there but I believe it is disconnected. Is there a manual switch somewhere to run this pump? Thx.

Counter rotating engine on 1989 SR Weekender 300

Hey, one more question, if anyone knows the answer. If I find a good deal on a standard rotation engine and need to reverse the rotation, can I replace the transmission with one that is counter-rotation? I know they made some that were counter rotating and had just a slight ratio dif. from...

    Official 1980's Weekender/Sundancer 300 thread

Hi. I recently bought a 1989 Weekender 300 and am doing some rehab work. The only part missing that I know of right now is the door to a small storage area on the starboard side of the cockpit next to the helm seat. There is one on the port side as well, but I am only missing the starboard door...

Counter rotating engine on 1989 SR Weekender 300

Thanks all. Sounds like all is as it appears - the starboard is the reverse engine. I can't believe I never thought to turn it over and LOOK at the rotation of each engine! I feel pretty stupid being given that advice. I'll do that just to satisfy my curiosity, but I'm sure it will show that...

Counter rotating engine on 1989 SR Weekender 300

Hi. I'm just making sure I buy the correct replacement engine for my 1989 Weekender 300. The starboard engine has block freeze damage and needs replacing. It does say on the engine tag it's RH, Opp Rotation. However, I think I read that typically it's the port engine that is opposite rotation...
