I had the same question with my 190.... but in a big storm while docked I noticed the pump went off automatically (switch off/boat off). The float must be up pretty high because I have used the manual switch a couple times too.

My 2012 190 speedometer doesn't work either.... I advise you switch to GPS with a chartplotter or depthfinder.
