There's a lot of good in that statement. Doing a lot of mental boating helps tremendously, ie., think about what you would do and how you would do it in different situations.
That said, when it comes to boat-handling, you have to learn on the water. Simple suggestions like, around the docks...
Fantastic advice guys. Down-to-earth right on the money. Thank you!!!
I am all about the research. Make as many mistakes in my head as I can, narrow down what we want... etc.
The standout advice here is contacting the seller broker. That guy wants to sell a listed boat and will be happy to...
Thanks Coaster! I didn't know those boat shows have used/brokerage areas. That's a big help.
Btw, do you transport your boat to Florida during the season?
We need to see a lot of boats before we move up. Sundancer models in the 48-51' range, sedan bridge models in the 44-48' range. The DA models need to be open helms, and have seating on both sides of the helm.
I'm thinking there are two kinds of buyers that brokers deal with, those like us, and...
Excellent sb! Thank you very much for the detailed reply.
You answered another question I've had...where is the access? I have been skittish about boats whose main engine access is in the salon, preferring instead boats with aft cockpit access. It seems the salon-access boats, when I've found...
Thanks Wet Dogggg!! I sent a copy of yours to my guy, I want that quality or nothing.
One more example of the many benefits this website provides.
Art, as I said above I'm leaning toward frownies, and don't mind them hanging open. The one downside for me with all frowns is I like to use the...
'Dog your man sure did a nice job. I like how the zippers are up close to the edge of the panels so they're not in your view. And the zipper covers...very nice. With frownies do you just let them hang open, no rolling?
AllTideUp....a captain buddy of mine suggest the same if I go with smilies...
Oh c'mon!!! All the great anchorages and rivers off the Ohio River and you don't need a mosquito-free cockpit cover? During the summer...say just around sunset?
Thanks dog! I like the frownies for the very reason you posted...the option for partial opening. Also, if I want to open them all the way I can without rolling them. Zip...open. Frownies are much harder to find pics of than smilies.
I have the standard 340 canvas without screens. I want to have zippered smilies with screens or zippered frownies with screens installed.
Offhand the frownie pro is when it's unzipped it falls down on its own, no immediate need to roll it up. Also, it's easier to have them partially unzipped...
Finding pics of the engine room on these boats is difficult. Well, more so, finding pics that offer perspective of the size. I'm a 5'11" 210 guy, I like to do my own maintenance. I don't want to lay across the engines, squeeze between the engines, crouch like a monkey between the hull and the...
Wow! Thanks Pete! My home homeport is central Ohio and I have ALWAYS been told... not by dedicated boaters though, the boating season on Erie is end of May to mid September! That's very good news! Granted...lol, we both know it's still cold in mid-April, but...you're in the water and on your boat.
The 2010 450 sure is a nice layout inside and out...especially for a boat that has only 14" more beam than the 12' a 2005 340 has. The cockpit is especially nice.
The 2015 model added port and starboard electrically-opening helm windows! :smt038 Nice touch!! I guess just like a car, people...
Showed this post to my wife to support the idea that some women can live on a larger DA without feeling like a cave...I'm presuming the "we" in your post means a man and woman, maybe I shouldn't presume. Anyway, the camper canvas on the huge cockpits of the 500's, 520 and 540...that's a lot of...
I've read some amazing stuff about the new coaster. It won't be for me. I'm pretty much an old school wooden frame guy, the one at CP is good, the Beast at Kings Island I like. There's one coaster at CP that's pretty tame, you hang down in a row of seats that glide around a long tube. That was...
