Happy to report that the new 14.5 x 17 prop i put on the boat has resulted in a positive performance increase. I don't have hard numbers to share but seem to be running much faster at a lower RPM now. Best cruise seems to be around 3500 rpm depending on load.
I may just try the broom handle technique as described in this thread :) http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/52741-How-can-i-replace-swim-ladder-on-1995-Searay-185BR?highlight=replace+ladder
I would hope that the backing plate which is mounted on the underside of the decking stays attached.
Has anyone tried replacing the existing stock ladder with a newer 4-stepper? Accessing the ladder bolts on the underside seems to be the biggest issue. You'd have to be one hell of contortionist be able to reach those suckers. My hope was that the new ladder would be the same width as the old...
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. I'm going to get another quote from the shop where I'm having my Spring tuneup/service done next month.
On a related note, it's almost time to un-winterize! :) Bought some new shoes for the trailer yesterday so that's one to-do to check off my list.
I got a quote of just under $500 to have zippers installed on the three sides of the camper enclosure. While not a bad price I'm still considering just purchasing a universal top from Overton's or West marine. If I go with the later option, I'm still a bit uncertain which of the three existing...
Question for my fellow 220 owners. I've got the camper canvas setup which is great and all but do not have a summertime canvas which covers the aft area of the boat. I had a local canvas give me an estimate for adding zippers to the canvas side so the I still use the top but the price seems a...
Reviving a bit of old thread here but what the heck. I just bought my '89 220da this past Labor Day weekend and it's been a great boat for our family thus far. We keep it in a slip in Horseshoe Bend right now but are considering moving it farther north (Lost Bridge or Rocky Branch) next...
So I opted for the solar panel option... I'm unsure if I should use the battery clamps or the 12v plug in though. If the I use the clamps, which battery should I connect it to?
Good to know. Sounds like a new prop is definitely in order. 4000 rpm was typically the highest rpm I would run it at but I did open it up once or twice to see how she did.
Thanks for the feedback cc.. My speedometer doesn't work and I don't have a GPS installed yet so I don't really have a good baseline as to how i'm performing. I have 1200 hours on my 5.7 but it runs great so I don't think it's the bottleneck. I do know that I hit approximately 5300 rpm at...
Anyone have recommendations on the optimal prop for this boat? The three blade that the boat came with is a bit nicked up and has me wondering if it's adversely affecting performance. We have kids and do plan to tube on some occasions but other than that I'm just looking for better overall...
It varies from year to year. Most years we receive a few rounds of dustings of up to an inch or so but every now and then we'll get hit with a big storm that will dump a foot on us but that is usually a once every 5 years occurrence.
Thanks for the feedback Danny. I've only owned the boat since Labor Day and haven't plugged it into shore power yet (no pigtail yet) so I wasn't entirely sure if what I had planned was a proper solution. I've read the manually but just wasn't super clear on how the shore power charged the...
