    Caterpillar won't release engine records

Get the survey done by a Cat dealer or Cat specialist. $1000 is chump change in Diesel world. I had the 600 Hr done just last year on my Cummins 450 diamonds $3500. The boat had 400 Hr on it when I purchased it and the broker pushed me to have Cummins do a full engine survey at the sea trial he...

    Official Cummins 6cta 450C thread

I am not to sure where your getting your data but the oil pan capacity of the 6.3 cta 8.3 diamond 450 is 4.5 gallons and you put 1 gallon into the filter BEFORE you screw the new filter on. It's also a no no to use anything other than diesel rated 15W-40 oil these engines are not to use 30 w oil...

2001 Sedan 400 DB Cockpit and Canvas leaks

Your canvas is not what the factory sets up. if it were you would be connected to the snaps that are to the right of your canvas. I have the original factory canvas and it has rubber seals that go down the edge where the snaps are that are not used in your photo and around the step edge. it's...

2001 400 Sedan Bridge CO detector power lost.

If your CO detestor is over a few years old it will not work. I found this out when one my mine died. I spoke with the factory and they said that after 3 or 4 years the detector goes bad. I bought 3 of the battery powered ones and put them around the inside of the boat. I install new batteries...

Shore Power Problem 400 Sedan Bridge

You should also use dielectric grease on the ends of the cables. When they are plugged in the can move and arc some causing problems. I use it all the time on all of the shore power connections.

Remove Coffee Maker from 400 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge

I removed min this morning because it failed. I have a 2001 400 Db and I suspect that it will be similar on other years. If you take out the carafe there is a phillips head screw remove that. Insert a flat baled screw driver at the top left of the unit and gently pry the coffee maker out it will...

Loud exhaust Westerbeke 8KW diesel generator

I did consider a hush box but have decided against it. the raw water pump is not a real issue on the 40DB as you can see it and replace the impeller without to much fuss. I just don't think the hard hush box will fit. there is no room really above the generator for a box. I did not look at the...

Loud exhaust Westerbeke 8KW diesel generator

Okay there is another same year boat at the club and it sounds to me a little quieter. there is another boat with the 7KW gas version and there is almost no exhaust sound from his exhaust just a gush gush gush when his generator is running. my boat is a 01 so maybe I should just replace the...

Loud exhaust Westerbeke 8KW diesel generator

I have been trying to diagnose my generator exhaust being noisier than I think it should be on my 400DB. I have replaced the raw water impeller. pulled and cleaned the heat exchanger, cleaned the intake screen and the through hull screen. I still see a almost continuous stream of water out the...

    40 sedan bridge forum

I am on the hard for the winter although I have done in water a few times. all the tanks are drained and the mechanical engines and generator were winterized with anitfreeze. the water is in the bilge is fresh water I think it's geeting in at the hatch above the generator. I have noticed that...

    40 sedan bridge forum

What I meant was that the shrink wrap did not help the water problem. I end up having enough water in the bilge to be up to the bottom of the generator water strainer after winter has ended. the shrink wrap caused chafing problems on the hull and the boat was more dirty with the cover than...

    40 sedan bridge forum

Okay good thought. maybe what I need to do during storage is seal up the engine vents. I did clear out the leak hole in the rear storage but I know that it always seems a bit wet in there. During the winter I used to have the boat shrink wrapped and still there was water buildup in the bilge...

Has anyone had to replace the padded trim at the bottom of the saloon windshield? it looks like I make have a couple of small leaks and the wood inside the trim is deteriorating to the point that it's looking crappy. I think it's just thin plywood covered by the inside trim material? I am going...

Thanks, Thats great to know. I will give it a try as soon as the boat is off the hard. I have a spare pump that needs to be rebuilt and I have stripped it down so I know what needs to be done. I will do the starboard pump first so I will have a idea what I need to do. Again thanks for the help...

    Changing raw water pump

Thanks for the reply. I am not to sure that our setup is the same mine are straight drives with the front of the port engine up near the forward bulked. I have to take the belt cover off but not to sure if I can squeeze in between the front of the engine and the bulkhead to reach the pump. At...

    40 sedan bridge forum

Hi, I have a 2001 with the same engines. I pretty much cruse at 2200 to 2300 between 23 to 25 knots. I find that my fuel consumption with the genny running averages 23gph I think that is the sweet spot for these boats with the Cummins motors.

    Changing raw water pump

I am thinking about replacing the raw water pump on my port motor. I have Cummins 6cta450m8.3 engines in a 2001 400 sedan bridge. it looks pretty tight to get in there. I was wondering if anyone with the same engine has done this themselves? or is this something better left to a mechanic?
