    8.1 420HP HO fuel filters

Worked on a 05 340da with twin 496mag about a month ago, they both had inline and spin on filters. You'll find the inlines mostly likely mounted to the bulk head. Its easy enough to follow the line from the tanks to the motors to determine if yours in equiped with this set up. edit* just...

    Lifter Issue??

Nothing against rotella at all, its the cold viscosity hes using. I had a similar problem with my car, was at 5w-30, went to 10w-30 and it went away.

Engine won't start - newbie question

Mercruiser's are notorious for this issue, no need to bad mouth SeaRay  edit*Even though you saw what it looks like, that pic doesnt really justify where it is, you'll find it on top of the intake manifold

    Lifter Issue??

15w-40 eh? I bet when you do your oil change to 25w-40 the noise will magically disappear...depending on how long you've been running like this

Mercruiser 5.7 Smoke, Oil Consumption, High Oil Pressure

When you say "remanufactured" are you talking about a crate motor? a short block? long block? Did you make the necessary changes in your driving habits as far as a break in period? ^important questions in diagnosis

    Oil Change or Not?

Base it on how many hours you think youll run next season. My customers all get their oils (engine/gear) every 25-30hours. Some religiously change it every year around this time regardless of hours just to know its fresh come spring start up

    cleaning outdrives

Just so your aware, Merc offers props in polished and brushed finishes. Make sure yours doesnt have the "brushed" look to them or else you'll spend a longgg time trying to polish them :)

    Engine Knock

If you do go that route as far a rebuild, a remanufactured short/block is never out of the question and is cost efficient. I will recommend these guys for your supplier. I have used many of their short/long blocks and have been VERY happy with their work. Second to none in my opinion, keep in...

    After Market vs OEM Parts

OEM:grin: Sierra parts are hit or miss, DO NOT get sierra bellows as they are smaller and almost impossible to install. Filters/oils/gaskets hell even carb kits, is ok to save a buck or two. Anything that needs EXACT fitment should be an oem part because that is where you run into trouble...

Royal Purple Oil & Gear Lube

I use Royal purple in all of my motors and transmissions that I personally own. I noticed a difference in my car, especially the tranny and shifting. not that it applies to boats in any way. The big deciding factor here is the price... $21 a quart for the gear lube, the merc high performance...

    trim fault

Everytime ive run into this problem on a smartcraft system its always been a trim sender puck. Infact all it needs is a 1/16"-1/32" of a tweak at the puck, and the alarm has ALWAYS gone away. Please before you order the puck kit ($100 through merc) try just adjusting it a tad

Bravo III outdrive low howl noise

Chances are its probably your gimbel bearing. give it a few shots of grease if you noticed it toned down the noise then you have your culprit. Also check to see if you can hear in under the engine hatch.

    Fuel Pressure Question

Yes my appologizes, that was off the top of my head and is a very common number. straight out out the mercruiser manual says you should have 34-38psi at the rail, engine not running, then about 3-7psi less at idle. This 'knock' your hearing is probably denotation from lack of fuel or in terms...

    4.3 EFI trouble

How old is the fuel in the tanks?? When did you change the filter?? You've pretty much replaced everything ignition wise that could be the problem so really the only thing left is bad gas, or bad compression. Try using some mercruiser dri-fuel, or any dry gas for that matter. And try...

    Fuel Pressure Question

Should be between 40-45psi at the fuel rail, with the key on or engine running. Typical pressure is about 43psi Check your drop in fuel filter, if not clogged then proceed to the fuel pumps

3.0 seems to be missing at full throttle

Check your fuel quality, try just dumping some dry gas in the tank. Im leaning towards fuel, mainly because you said the tune up was just done and if the motor has 50hrs on it the compression should be fine. Have any problems filling the gas tank?

    4.3 EFI trouble

I'd start at the basics -When was your last tune up? -When did you change your fuel filter If you can see unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust, chances are its going to be a spark related. Combustion mixture isn't being fully ignited and getting pushed right out the exhaust.

350 (Merc 260) Overheat Issues - please help!

It is REALLY hard to mess up an impeller installation, as a marine mechanic, its second nature. I'd go back and make him eat those peices, and get it changed again for free. Oh wait you had me do it? Just cut the guy some slack jeez hahaha Glad you found your problem, overheating causes...
