Speaking of "roller holders", I've removed and had all the panels/seats recovered on my '86, which had MANY screws holding the panels to the fiberglass. I'm not crazy about running all the screws back through the new vinyl, although I will likely have to, but does anyone have pics of the roller...
I had two small blisters towards the bow on mine, but we decided to leave them be until next time. Spend yesterday at the boat show here in Dallas and tallied up about $12K of mods I'd like to do this year (full camper canvas/full exterior seadek)....or I could just buy the 45 Cantius at the...
If only we could get around to the cosmetic work....the bottom job is done, the new platform is on, and the old stripes have been removed, but while I was down there today I noticed a two bent tips on the port prop, and play in the cutlass bearings, so back to the drawing board for a bit longer...
We're going to try a deoxidizer first, as I've always had issues with getting all the sanding marks out and want the same result on the non-skid areas. If it doesn't provide enough result, then we may have to readdress the issue. From what we can see under the stripes, this was a unique and...
Just a little rant about how excited I am to finally get my hulk pulled out and some cosmetic work done after owning for two years. Initially just for a bottom job, but decided to have the shop redo the stripes. When we found the original color of the gel under the stripes we decided to...
Yep...it's a gonner! The plan is to take out the factory tank, treatment system and overboard pump, and replace with a bigger holding tank. While I'm in there I have all new battery boxes and going to install a more "modern" battery charger, so that side of the bilge will seem sparse compared...
FINALLY...although I thought I swapped distributor pickups at some point, apparently not! Didn't really suspect them as they were both brand new less than six months ago, but obviously that was the problem as it moved with it when swapped to other engine and fired up immediately with the...
Both the engines have been cool when the swap was done, and as such ever since. Tried swapping pick ups, both are new, no change. Heading out tomorrow to isolate out tachometer and ignition switch...note that the port tach has been acting up lately so if it is shorting out internally could...
Yes, carbs both rebuilt and plenty of fuel. Certainly ignition related, but can't see how the swap of modules fixed, then next time out without changing anything it's back to same symptoms. The tach on that engine was acting up before all this, so this weekend plan to check on that end of the...
7 hours again and no joy! A couple weeks ago after a hard run to burn off old fuel, the port engine shut down after coming off plane and wouldn't restart. Figured I'd run the tank dry, so switched to other tank with no luck, changed filters...nothing. Plenty of fuel, but spark seemed week...
My '86 DA doesn't have a hatch above the dinette/galley walkway like most all 340's I've seen on here....why would that be? I'm thinking of adding it for more ventilation, although the thought of cutting a big hole in my boat is not pleasant!
Flounder Pounder now has other options....and therefor I have choices. I'm still thinking the burl wood they originally had, but what say you on this dated old girl? My opinion is the CF look is a bit racy for her, so I'm between the wood and the black speckle at this point. Seems the burl...
Confirmed it is a 110 volt bilge heater system. The thermostat control is mounted high on the transom and was manufactured by Honeywell. I believe I will remove the system, epoxy all the screw holes, and install a modern bilge heater that won't explode my boat!
Was thinking the same thing, but alas, they are there! Looked a little today but didn't feel like pulling all the covers, so I'll chase the wiring sometime this week. I believe it's a bilge heater system of some sort.
Yes, I feel kind of stupid for asking, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to turn on the lights in the bilge on my old girl. Are they controlled by a thermostat or ???
Let me throw this out there also....the only evidence of a "leak" is that when the pump is running I find air cycling out of a tiny vent in the cap of the automatic treatment solution bottle for the macerator, and a back/forth gurgling from inside the waste tank. After reading a few of the many...
1986 340 DA with vacuflush and overboard system. Pump continues to run so I installed four new duckbills in the primary pump, new bowl gaskets, new ball valve, and checked for leaks at hoses (none), but still running on as before. Question is, the duckbills in the second pump for the overboard...
I know the feeling...pain! After two weeks in the bilge wrenching I've found muscles that likely haven't been used in 25 years, my ribs feel like I've been in a UFC fight, and bruises all over my body. Isn't it fun?
