Thanks, skoflaw. I ordered a new diode, and it hasen't arrived yet. I used the diode from the port engine, which is still okay.

Okay, Espos. I am going to replace the starter and it's 90 amp fuse. When it does start, I will check the alternator output and change it if needed. I do have the Merc service manual #31 which is for the 250 hp 350 cid carbed engine. Thanks for your advice.
