Have a buyer for my Searay 270 and he wants to know what trailer can handle it? Does the length of the trailer matter, the weight it can handle, or what??
The 1999 Searay 270 SD has a stern light/anchor light that is about 6 feet tall. I have never found a good place to store it. Is there a magic place I haven't found?
Nauti,
Glad you raised this topic and hope you get some good replies. I have had a couple lift people set my bunks and they always do it by eye-balling it. Wish someone - Searay? - would publish templates for bunks for each boat.
Managed to bend and nick my bravo 3 props (1999 Searay 270) on sandbars, etc. Saw a used bravo 3 prop set, 30 pitch, for sale on Craigs List for $375. I have only the online owners manual so have no idea the pitch on my current props. So my questions are:
- How do I determine the pitch on my...
Today took crew around local waterway so they could do water sampling, which entailed frequent anchoring and then slow cruising to the next location. After about 6 stops the windlass stopped working - it would sound like it was starting but then just quit. As we were in shallow water we just...
With the forecast for below freezing tonight (4/9) in the mid-Atlantic I am thinking about putting some form of heat by the motor and water tank. Probably a work light. Any other suggestions?
In following this (very long) thread it seems to me the answer depends on your intention and personality. If your intention is just to repel and protect you and yours then you will know you can do that with pepper spray, wasp/hornet spray, flares, etc. If, however, you are the type who is not...
Another alternative is a can of "hornet spray". It is pressurized and shoots at least 20 feet. That is far enough to hit the face of anyone trying to board. Legal anywhere, less danger to everyone, not sure what it does to the eyes of the target (but less damage than a bullet.) Does the job of...
Thanks for the tips about saving the shrink wrap. However, what I am actually considering is one of the commercially available whole boat covers, like from Empire and National Boat Covers. Anyone have experience with these?
Have had shrink wrap the two winters I have owned my Searay 270, but am thinking about alternatives. The boat will be on the hard. The cost of a cover seems to be about 2X the cost of shrink wrap, but should last for several years. It looks like a cover will protect the entire boat but am...
I agree with JimG. Have seen rails pulled up at the stanchion and bent by pressure on fenders when boat moves. Either use cleats or tie at the base of a stanchion.
The wife and I are starting to think about "something bigger" (that doesn't happen to anyone else does it?) So, that first means selling our 1999 SR270. What are your thoughts about putting a boat on the market in the fall - vs. the winter or spring or summer? The broker with whom I have started...
IT WORKED!
Put cover in big commercial machine and "washed" it with Downey. Brought it home still damp and it stretched to reach all snaps! First time in 3 years boat is completely covered.
Thanks for all the advice.
I was just ready to post a similar question. My cockpit cover (no zipper, just snaps) no longer can be stretched enough to reach the snaps by the swim platform door. The gap is now almost 4 inches - looks like too much for the extenders discussed. Can the fabric softener process stretch it that...
After a 10 day trip I was within sight of the CYOA sailboat charter base in St. Thomas, USVI, when the Coasties came along side and "asked" if they could board. What, I'm going to say no??? So 3 of them came onboard (later, one of my crew said they looked like their mother's had to drive them to...
This thread started out regarding Dock of the Bay (which I am glad has reopened) and Rowboat Willies and then migrated to Crazy Tuna and Sunset Cove. So, where are Crazy Tuna and Sunset Cove located? Another place I enjoy for brunch/lunch is Riverview - no nightlife and REALLY skinny water.
