    Illinois River, Chicago River

I may be taking a boat from the Illinois River into the Chicago River, and to the lake. I am not familiar with these bodies of water. Anyone have advice or general info about this passage? What I am looking for is lock info, peculiarities about the rivers, recommendations for a transient well in...

    air conditioning just an option?

Does it look original? On the 300 WE the A/C breaker is on the electrical panel, not the dash. If you have a factory installed A/C, it will be under the berth.

Anyone put flowscans on the 300 WE? I am wondering where the best efficiency is in terms of RPM. I tend to cruise at a gentle 2750 RPM at 21/22 knots (24/25 mph). Pushing it up to 3100 gets me 26 knots (30 mph). And of course, WOT is 4400 RPM, so there's lots of room to go. On the other hand...

'86 300 Weekender - Randon engine shut downs

I had a similar problem on my stb. motor. After a lot of searching, it turned out to be the fuel pick up.

Yes, exactly. Then I used the other half to trim the deck bench bases. The original aft deck seat-box was rotted completely, so I took it out and used the left over teak.

Thanks. Sorry about the full box. I'll tend to it when I can get back to a real computer rather than a phone. Regarding the dash parts, I reused everything I could. For the teak, I took it all off and redid it. The PO did a sloppy varnish job ans it was peeling. I also flush mounted the stern...

Terrific, thanks. Can you tell me about how to do the rudders? It's a different set up than the drive shafts. JCOD

No, I mean the rudder and shaft packings. I think they are 1/4", but I am hoping someone can confirm this. JCOD

Are the rudder packings the same size as the shaft packings, i.e., 1/4"?

The problem I see with this is that the old ports are really wide (from fore to aft) and narrow (from top to bottom). It wouldn't be a problem to cut new ones to fit, but I haven't found any that would be long enough. Tougher to put fiberglass back in to fill the gaps.

There are rollers on both the top and bottom. I would have tried tint, but the other problem is some minor crazing in a spot or two. I wish I could swap it out for new material.

Take off the horizontal trim piece that is above the doors. It has about 4-5 short screws. They're shorter than you might expect, so be prepared that you don't drop them. Pull the door out from the top off the frame and it will pop out of the track. Make sure to have a soft place to rest the...

Hi Mark, I'd love it if there were one, but it would be a bit premature for me to start one since I am only at the stage where I need to ask lots of questions about one. At this point, I've not even seen one up close. I'm considering moving to a bridge boat and this seems like a good option.
