    Moving to Western PA

We're moving to western PA (Cranberry) from southern Maryland. We have a 98-290 DA to take with us. I currently do not have a trailer or a vehicle to pull a loaded trailer with. SO, I'm looking for recommendations on boat moving companies as well as someplace up there we can keep/use the boat...

    Dry Storage

I live in Southern Maryland where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay. I'm looking for a place I can dry store my 290 DA so I can do some maintenance this winter. I've done the usual searches and found nothing. Does anyone here know of a relatively close (to me) dry storage facility...

    Holding tank lines

I finally got around to replacing the pump out line on my holding tank, now I am replacing the line from the vacuum pump to the tank. The line currently leaves the pump, runs down to the platform the pump sits on and then up to the holding tank forming somewhat of a loop seal. My question...

    Should I keep my macerator?

I'm replacing the holding tank lines and thinking about removing the macerator. We always boat within the Chesapeake and have no need for it. It could free up room for something else (batteries?) as well as eliminate other potential stinky hoses and leak points. Pros, cons?

    Holding tank hose

I'm getting ready to replace the 1.5" holding tank hoses (cracking/bulging). Anyone have a good source? What little research i've done shows the white hose to be in the $10/foot range. Anyone done this on a 97-290 DA that has something they want to share?

All things being equal...What do you think?

As I re-enter the boat market, I'm trying to determine what an acceptable amount of hours are on boat motors. All things being equal, meaning that routine maintenance was performed, and recogniziing that there are many motors available (but I'm mainly interested in big blocks found in 340's...

    Smartcraft scanner near 20657

I have a friend w/ an 02-340DA. Yesterday the port motor would not turn over. Prior to this, he had a problem w/ the engine jumping speed ~200 RPM. Someone had suggested he had a fuel injector stuck open. His boat has Horizon 8.1s motors. Is there anyone in the area with a smartcraft scan...

    Sanitary lines

The hoses that run to the macerator and pump out from the waste tank need replaced. They're starting to crack and bubble. I've never used the macerator, in fact the discharge valve is shut and the handle is removed, but the lines need replaced anyway. Obviously I want to make sure the tank is...

    Rod Holder '97 290 DA

I want to install a rod holder on the gunwale (?) on the starboard side near where the fold down step is but I have no access to this area from any angle. I need some place to put the magma grill, i have a mount on the swim platform and a pole but it's not the best location as it interferes w/...

    Swim ladder

I'm looking for a replacement ladder for the boat. Really hard, almost impossible to extend. Not useable. Looking for an option that will fit in same location on swim platform under the existing lid. Extended Collapsed Platform Mount

Engine stall coming off idle speed

My port motor is a little hard to keep running when started from cold. It will fire right up but then taper off and stall. If i attempt to give it gas during this time, it stalls instantly unless I pump the throttle a few times. When the engine is warm, it will idle fine but when I attempt to...

How do i know battery charging requirements?

I'm about to purchase some AGM dual purpose batteries and am trying to determine if the charger I have is OK. How do I know what the battery limits are so I can compare them to what the charger will do? I have 3 dual purpose batteries now that I am going to replace with 3 AGM batteries. Thanks.

    Battery Chargers and such

A few years back I purchased 3 new batteries. They are a hybrid of starting and deep cycle batteries. I'm not sure how long batteries should last. Each winter I pull them and equalize them before the spring. I'd measure the electrolyte level, add acid if needed and once done, re-install. When...

    Spotlight re-wire

The spotlight on the boat normally points aft to keep the lens from getting salted over when I need it. The problem is that the only time the position switch works is when the light is on so before I can use it (at night) it blinds me. Is there a mod that I can do to allow the position switch...

I'm thinking about mounting a laptop at the helm for navigation. Any recommendations for mount manufacturers? Anyone have pics of their install? Thanks.

    Wire routing on 98-290 DA

I want to run some wires (AM/FM antennae, XM, amplifier power, amplifier speaker outs) to the stereo on the boat and am trying to figure out how to gain acces to the helm side of the cable area. I can get wires to the helm but from there into the cabin is proving difficult. Any suggestions or...

    290 DA Windshield rebed

One of the recommendations my surveyor made when we purchased the boat was to rebed the windshield. So, I'm looking for guidance. Can this be done in the water? Can it be removed in pieces? I'd prefer do it in in the water as we keep it in a covered shed.

    Carpet backing

Our 290 Sundancer has carpet on the deck that I am currently not using because the backing is wearing off and leaves a layer of grit between it and the deck. The carpet is fine so I'm thinking if I could find some of the backing that the manufacturer uses I could paint the back of the carpet...

    Do I have engine zincs?

I have twin 4.3l V-6's. I just replaced the exhaust manifolds, spacers and risers on both motors. I did not see any zincs in the new or old units but there are plenty of places they could go. So now I'm wondering if there should be some and if I should be replacing them annually to preserve...
