For Sale: Winter Storage Cover for 270 Sundancer

Hey There: Are you saying that you paid $600 for a "custom" fit cover? Did these guys come to your boat and take measurements? Or was that a universal fit type cover that fit your 270? For $600 I'm thinking I'm calling them for next year. I’m also wondering how many seasons I...

    IAC on 496 question...

Hey Team: Anyone have any insight regarding issues with the IAC (Idle Air Controller) on a Mercruiser 496? I've just repowered and the "whistling" is telling the mechanic that the IAC is bad. It’s under warranty... but …REALLY?.. a brand new engine with bad IAC? C’MON!!! Is this a common...

Wow, this is interesting timing... My guy is Eric Klockers; my boat is in Groton, near UCONN Avery Point. Eric was working with me (I’m re-powering) on Wednesday June 9th when my friend Dave stopped by (2001 Sea Ray 310) and asked Eric about removing his shafts, because his seals were bad...

    Re-powering to a Mercruiser 496

Okay... Thx. Spoke to mechanic again..... I must have misheard him the first time... he said the impeller "is" worse to change because it's further back ....closer to the mounting bolts.... I might have been laughing at the comment about "….should be just as difficult as it was before….” to...

    Re-powering to a Mercruiser 496

Hey No Name: That 1-1/2" to spare vs 4" before...under the floor. That is scaring me now.... Is that the clearance above the engine itself.... or about the exhaust? Any pictures of that you might be able to share? THX  Do you have risers? THX Mark

    Re-powering to a Mercruiser 496

The mechanic is saying that if I'm going to go the the Merc 496, then there should not be an issue... The 496 has been used to replace the 454 for a while and the placement of the water pump should be just as difficult as it was before....but not worse... (nice wording huh?) other engines...

    Re-powering to a Mercruiser 496

Wow… GREAT responses …..THANKS VERY MUCH…. Hey Northern: I have heard 4 really bad stories about the 454s (besides my own), the most recent story was a guy at Defender (defender.com it’s in Waterford close to where my boat is… I’m there far too much…) he has a 1997 37’ Sea Ray with twin 454s...

    Re-powering to a Mercruiser 496

Good Day Team: I'm considering re-powering my 1998 Mercruiser 454 MPI Gen VI to a Mercruiser 496 375 HP. Need some pointers... I'm not interested in the new 8.2, just the 8.1. I just learned within the last week... (Defender sale) ...about a guy who did a rebuild on his two 454s last...
