This months issue of Boating posed a question in the "Captain's Test" questionnaire (page 17, January 2014). You discover that your new through-hull can't be bronze. What is your other choice? The answer provided is Marelon (type of reinforced plastic that can be used underwater). Also, you can...
Hope my antifreeze holds up to this bitter cold. Dealer used -50C in lieu of -60C or -100C claiming that he had drained the water out of the block prior to filling it with the antifreeze and therefore the block would be protected with the -50C. I guess I'll know if that was the right call come...
Went to the NY Boat Show on Saturday, Jan 4th. Turn out wasn't too bad considering the weather conditions a few days before. Overall, I was not impressed with the Sea Ray lineup. The 260DA is much smaller and boxier. No comparison to the 2005 -2009 model. The port side windows are terrible...
MarineMax Brick seams to have more boats on the hard this year than any year I recall. Much of it is due to Sandy. Many owners are taking their time to splash their boats unsure that all the driftwood and wreckage have been removed. You're fine as long as you stay within the channels.
A thought came to mind - The threads on the oil drain plug may not be properly machined resulting in the observed leak. I will try another plug to see if that helps.
Thanks everyone for your help.
Dennis,
What do you recommend to use for reseating and sealing the Drain Plug Flange? I recently used 3M Marine Adhesive/Sealant Fast Cure 4000 UV. It forms a firm, rubbery waterproof seal. Its flexibility allows for the dissipation of stress caused by shock, vibration, swelling or shrinking...
Thinking about this, it dawned on me that the teflon tape on the bilge drain plug will impair the continuity of the ground circuit between the drain flange and plug effectively isolating the plug. Corrosion will likely result on the plug since the mercathode circuit would be compromised.
I recently changed my oil drain plug/ bilge drain plug tether. With the oil drain plug tightly connected to the oil drain hose, I'm seeing oil around the plug. I'm wondering if I should apply teflon tape on the oil drain plug. Are there pros and cons to using teflon tape on the oil drain plug...
Does anyone use Trailering Clips and are they really necessary for helping to keep the outdrive tilted so there is less strain placed on the hydraulic system? I'm curious to know if Sea Ray recommends that boaters use them during trailering.
I believe I have the smaller nut like you said, the nylon piece is towards the end of the shaft. However for the the larger nut, I have the tapered end facing forward (toward the forward prop). Is that correct?
I removed the two props on my Bravo 3 along with the thrust hubs and prop nuts in order to lubricate the inner and outer propeller shafts. Problem is, I forgot how the propeller nuts were oriented on the shaft prior to removing them. Could someone tell me how the larger nut and the smaller...
